We've been to Zapata twice now with friends and both times we've been a bit disappointed. The first time we went the group shared starters of nachos and mushrooms. Both dishes were good, no complaints there. For main, one of us has steak and the other the vegetarian quesadillas. The steak was reported to be 'fine', though others at the table who ate it complained that the meat had been over-tenderised which had made it chewy. The quesadillas were disappointing - largely filled with potato and then fried in a clam-shell like shape which meant that it was a huge quantity of greasy carbs that were served. The cocktails were great, and the selection of alcohol was a pleasant surprise.
The second time we went, one of us had the sopitos (again, reported to be 'good' but not much more) and the other the vegetarian fajitas. They were disappointing. We were asked whether mushrooms and such were ok in the fajitas to which we enthusiastically replied 'yes'. However, what turned up at the table was a plate of peppers - nothing else at all. The wraps (which only numbered 3 and were about the size of my (small) hand) were broken which meant you couldn't actually roll/fold your fajita and the seasoning was a little bland. Others at the table who ate the meat fajitas reported them to be much spicier.
Unlike the first visit, the service was a bit of a let-down. They got the fajita orders wrong and made one beef and one chicken instead of two chicken, and they'd run out of chicken for one of the other dishes but only told us once the dish had already been made with beef. The fajitas arrived without the wraps which had to be requested, and then we had no plates, so those of us with this meal had to wait a while before we got everything.
We both really like Mexican, but this place just left us a little disappointed.
