Description: The Aero Club of East Africa was founded in 1927 by the aviation pioneers who opened up the frontiers of Africa. It still retains that 1930s romantic charm and historical ambience. The club is the only restaurant at Wilson Airport, four km from Nairobi’s central business district on the Langata Road. It is on the edge of the Athi Plains, with easy access to the Nairobi National Park and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The restaurant has inside dining, a large eating deck and tables in the garden and by the swimming pool. It overlooks Wilson’s 007 runway and is an ideal spot to spend the hours before you leave on safari or to unwind on your return and watch planes and helicopters land and take off while soaking up the atmosphere in this legendary piece of Kenya’s aviation history. Chef Neil McCarthy and the Creative Kitchen Co. team moved into the restaurant at the Aero Club of East Africa on 1st October 2011. Neil has cooked and consulted all over the world, from London’s Mayfair Hotel and the Moscow Metropole to California’s vineyards and top-range hotels across Africa, including the Mt. Kenya Safari Club and Nairobi’s Tribe hotel. He is famous for his tasty gourmet burgers and dry-rub spicy BBQ ribs. He creates tasty international buffets and a la carte specialties. Sinful puddings include his New York style, melt in your mouth, baked cheese cake and home baked apple pie. He serves mouthwatering and seriously satisfying food.

“Short stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

Warm welcolme again. Arrived late but they were expecting and waiting for us. Fed us too. Rooms are what they are, basic but much cheaper than town. The taxi fare and ride to the Aero is much better than to the town centre. Ask for the new rooms if you remember as they are quieter.

Great breakfast and quick to process the payment as always!

“Difficult to fault”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

I have had the pleasure of eating here twice in a fortnight. I would wholeheartedly recommend this delightful spot to anybody visiting. The staff were friendly and were able to help with choices; an extra was asked for and delivered as requested.

The drinks were prompt and welcome as the club provides a welcome break to the bustle of Nairobi. The restaurant is clean and spacious and extra tables in the garden add to the fresh feel.

The meals are good value for money, if a little cheesy in the names but it is an aero club. All the menu's names are aviation related.

The food arrived well presented, hot and fresh. The taste was good and uncomplicated, allowing the quality of the ingredients to sing out.

I had the lamb burger which was tender, pink on the inside and just lovely. The chips were potato not french fries and tasted all the better for it.

Thank you for a lovely meal.

“Could be good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Nice venue exciting menu for lunch al fresco on the tech terrace and watch the planes. Friendly service, only bad point is the food you don 't get what is supposed to be served. I order two choices and it was not way was described in the menu and neither the staff more the cook seams to have a clue what they did wrong, putting powder parmesan instead of melted cheddar and telling you it cheddar, and mayonnaise instead of mustard in a hot dog and confusing english with american mustard. the head chef is too busy chatting up customer to look what is going out of his kitchen.

“Great History and Milk Shakes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

My family reluctantly went with me to the Aero Club after a shopping trip. I want to catch a piece of 20th century history. Everybody loved the food; including quite possibly, the best milkshakes in Africa.

We came back the next day for dinner and enjoyed the food and the unique environment. We had burgers, steak, pasta, salads and chicken. Everything was wonderful. We all had milkshakes again.

Eating while watching bush planes land was a lot of fun!
