Owner description: The African Heritage House overlooking the Nairobi National Park is described by the Architectural Digest as "an architecture arising from the sere Kenyan plain like an outcropping of earth, a vision of usefulness informed by the African genius for decoration" .Inside one journeys through a spectrum of African textiles, masks, art, artifacts, crafts, books and photographs. Designed by American Alan Donovan, co-founder of the African Heritage, Africa's first Pan African Gallery, the house is a combination of the mud architecture from across Africa. Tours cost a minimum of K. Sh. 3000.00 (about $40) for up to 5 persons and thereafter K. Sh. 500 for each additional person.

If your interested in the History and Culture then you will enjoy this - is interesting for children but teenagers and under 4's would probably be easily bored.

“A collection and museum like no other.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2014

If you have not been able to book a room here, you must schedule a stop--better still, with a meal or glass of wine from the rooftop terrace overlooking the national part. The home and pool house are artfully filled with a priceless collection of African art and artifacts. For that matter, the home is a work of art (no detail is overlooked.) Owner, host, creator Alan Donovan will amaze you with his knowledge and presentation.

Nothing beats the culture held within the walls of this place. It brings you to the realization that there is soo much you haven't seen from the African historical submissions. @Roadtripguru

“interesting, scenery is amazing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

it is far from Nairobi city center, past the airport. (so better choose your time properly, traffic, distance). you need to let Alan(owner and your guide for the day) know in advance when you are coming. we had a tour at16:00hrs. we enjoyed it more as we had seen teh exhibition at the national gallery in town, so we knew abit of the background. AND if you are interested, you can spend a night there sourounded by various pieces from the man trips Alan made. The bathrooms are amazing. take your camera and even go a little bit early (prior to the tour) so you can take photos... and plan to stay another 30 minutes and sit on the many verandah, while you have tea or coffee. and take more photos.
