“Out of Africa movie set”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

The house and lawn are charming. If you have seen the movie Out of Africa with Robert Redfort and Meryl Steep you'll feel connected to the property otherwise it is just a house. Karen Blixen's influence is present around the neighborhood and much more rewarding to see than the museum itself. Also for Africa's standards it is not a cheap activity to do.

“If you have any interest, it's an ok visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

I had some interest in Karen Blixen, so found the museum somewhat interesting. The museum itself wasn't that interesting, but the tour and the stories were. If you do go, don't expect to see much, but listen to the stories the guides have to tell.

“Out of Africa Scene Relived!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

We loved visiting the Karen Blixen Museum, which is actually the house and coffee plantation where she lived when she was in Africa. Many of her things were auctioned off (as we saw in the movie), but some are left, and the feeling of her presence is still quite vivid. The exterior shots in the movie were shot here; the interior is quite a bit smaller than you think you see in the movie, but very authentic in its period furnishings and decor. Don't miss coming here on your next trip to Kenya!

“Pretty boring!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013 via mobile

Had seen the movie and read the book so fancied a visit. Literally just the house. It's slightly interesting as it shows a house from early 1900s.

Tour and entry £10. Four took at best 15 mins probably less. Was on site 30 mins. Nothing to see or do.

Combined with elephant orphange which was BRILLIANT.

Used a very good and trusting taxi driver for 6 hours! Waited whilst we went in these places. We met him at the airport but had a transfer booked. He picked us up at hotel and dropped us off. Cost 45$ only and made us safe.
