“Excellent wildlife so close to city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

This is just 10 kms or 45 mins from the city centre but I've seen so many animals up close to me. I was lucky enough to see 10 Lions including 2 cubs apart from many other animals like Zebras, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Rhinos, Monkeys, Ostrich and others. The animals are used to seeing human beings & are normally visible from roads.

I had to travel in a Corolla (taxi used in city) since their safari vans were already booked.

TIP: Please reserve their vehicle in advance by calling them a couple of days in advance or go through a travel agent. The best thing would be their safari vehicles.

“For a short trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Convenient and easy. We actually saw lions, so if you cannot go to a park that is further away, it is a nice outing

“A great way to start a safari holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Although it is surrounded by the city, it is not a busy park and the wildlife is quite fantastic. In our two days staying at the edge of the park and during several safari drives we saw no more than a few other vehicles. Well worth the visit.

“Safari Park / Zoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

The Nairobi National Park is a safari park, larger than a normal urban and open-range zoo, where tourists can drive their own cars to see wildlife living in large enclosed areas. These attractions allow the animals more space than the small enclosures of traditional zoos.
It is a drive-through safari park. Visitors can take their own cars or go in one of the park’s buses. If some people say it is not very clean, or posh like many european zoos, well, it is because they don't understand the real life as it is. You can see the animals in their real habitat and that's better for them and educational for the visitors. The fees are high, well, how do people expect to see the animals there without costs? They need to eat. Do people realise how many kg of meat one single lion eats? And how much is a kg of meat these days? Just go there, make your contribution, and enjoy seeing animal life. Great place!

“Nice park if you can't get to the Mara...no elephant / cheetah / leopard / hippo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Its kind of sad to see the city continually encroaching on the animals' habitat, but you have a high chance of seeing lion, rhino, and croc, and are pretty much guaranteed giraffe, ostrich, zebra, buffalo, etc.. Park fees are high but the park is small and good for self-driving if you have a 4WD vehicle and aren't an idiot with driving into puddles.

People think that because this park is 30 minutes from town its safe to walk around in. There's a nature walk with a ranger down near the river, and my wife and a friend came within 3 meters of a male lion on the hunt when they wandered off to the bathrooms there.

Buy a map (if they haven't run out) and ask the rangers where lions were last sighted when you go through the gate. Get there EARLY to avoid the line for the atrocious process of buying your tickets.
