“Beautiful Fairview”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2010

We spent in the Fairview 3 days - 2 days before safari and 1 day after. The hotel is situated far from big streets. Here is no noise of cars - it was very important for me, because I was with little child. Babycots in the room and child chaires in the restaurant are available. The swimming pool has children's section. Very good cuisine. Wonderful gardens. Very helpful and friendly staff. Thank you for our excellent rest!

We stayed here 2 nights, one before our Safari and one after and before beach stay. We stayed in the First Class Double, because you could you the first class lounge, which included free use of computers and free snacks and drinks. Their food was good and the only place on our trip, you could find a good glass of iced tea. They held some luggage we had for our beach stay until we got back, which was real handy for us because we were flying on bush planes and could not take that much with us. The room was very nice and everything look pretty around the grounds. One tip is pay the hotel directly for the taxi and just give the driver a tip, because otherwise our first experience, the desk told us one price and he inflated it when we got there, so the next time we just paid the hotel directly, it was cheaper that way.

Spent 3 nights here with my daughter and it was an oasis in a fairly hostile Nairobi.

Staff were very helpful and the whole place was clean. the gardens were beautiful.

Relaxed elegance without the fuss. Beautiful grounds. Friendly, courteous and professional staff from housekeeping, security, front desk, bellhops, all restaurants and the tiny but well-stocked gift store. We were there right after the elections so security was important to us. Being across from the Israeli embassy was a plus regarding external security. We had 2 rooms, #49 and #48, which were nice sized, quiet, comfortable, clean and with great views of the lawn and garden. Even had a bench and bird-feeders outside the door which were busy with birds in the mornings. With 2 young teens, the lawn with 2 soccer goals, was a place for them to burn-off a little steam if they needed to. The beds were comfortable and the fan was more than adequate in keeping us cool. Housekeeping always accomodated us. Food at all restaurants was satisfying with nice variety. Even have sushi as part of their morning buffet and is a regular menu item. Courteous with good service. Grace, at the front desk, helped me locate a bag I forgot during my transport from Arusha to Nairobi then arranged a taxi to transport us to-and-from the baggage location. Our sons were independent of us and the staff welcomed them warmly. The boys loved playing chess with the African animal-themed sets in the family lounge. We had a late flight out and after check-out, they stored our luggage as we enjoyed our last meal and relaxed in the family lounge.

We - i.e. a family of four with two teenage daughters - stayed at the Fairview for four nights while we discovered Nairobi before traveling to Mombasa and the South Coast. "The Country Hotel in Town" - which is the hotel's slogan - may sound like advertising talk, but it describes the atmosphere in the hotel nicely: Big garden with waterfalls, trees, palms, big pool, two restaurants outside (one right next to the pool), the other next to the waterfall; two restaurants inside, the one even featuring good sushi! The girls liked the Italian/international place best since it served great pasta in all kinds of varieties. The staff: Very friendly, the rooms (we had business rooms): Spacious and very clean, with a good service. All in all: Very good value for money, and a great way to start a vacation!

The Fairview hotel was great as it was in a very nice and quiet location, outside of downtown Nairobi and close to Wilson airport and to Karen where I did the majority of my sightseeing. I had booked a First Class room and was assigned one of their new rooms. It was nice with a flat screen television and comfortable bed, although I did find the bathroom amenities lacking as there was only one pump container of combination shampoo/soap, but that was okay as I'd brought my own. The hotel landscaping and grounds were beautiful, the restaurants and first class lounge (good high speed internet) were wonderful and the service was exemplary.

Susan the server in the breakfast restaurant went above and beyond as when I had challenges using my cell phone and the front desk was busy with guest checking out, she made a call for me and when she wasn’t getting good cell reception, she even handed me her phone and told me to take it outside so that I could make a local Nairobi phone call with better cell reception. The restaurant was also very good and I enjoyed all of the items I selected.

Also, if you need a local guide you should contact Kennedy the owner of Waymark Safaris, I was fortunate he was available for my one full day in Nairobi and he is very friendly, knowledgeable and great company while visiting KWS, Sheldricks, Karen Blixen’s House and various other locations.

I’d highly recommend this hotel as it is a perfect way to start your Safari as it away from the craziness of downtown Nairobi and the ambiance is wonderful

We have just arrived from Arusha, Tanzania and needed a place to stay for 1 night. Found so many positive reviews for this hotel that we decided to stay.We came in a private car and had a real hard time trying to find; our driver was from Arusha so he was not familiar with the area; nobody seemed to know where the hotel was even though we stopped many times to get directions.
I would recommend that they improve their map and insttructions on their website and if you are arriving from the airport probably have the hotel pick you up with a taxi driver who is familiar with this location.
The room is OK, nothing spectacular, the images on their website shows a bigger room for the First class room which we had.
The restaurant was nice, they had a great pasta menu which I recommend.
Overall I would recommend this place, nothing extraordinary like most reviews were but overall a positive experience

Thank you very much for you feedback.

We have since improved the map instructions on our website. We do provide an option during the reservation process to have a hotel based taxi driver pick our guests upon arrival at the airport. This information is also captured below the map on our website.
