“Dont tell anyone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2010

Wonderful hotel with character, staff with a smile, clean large rooms, several restaurants to chose from. very safe as it is opposite the Israel ambassy, nice pool and gardens. A place to relax after a day of work in hectic Nairobi or your home away from home during holiday. The 1930 facade and most of the interior give the hotel a classic luxury feel. Highly recommended. very good value for money.

My fiance and I spent 10 days at the Fairview Hotel during our trip to Kenya, and we enjoyed every single moment! The staff was excellent and friendly, they recognized you - the breakfast chef even remembered exactly how we liked our omelets made!! We were treated like their singular guests- and I believe other people got the same treatment!
Our room was very comfortable, and always very clean!! The food was delicious and the environment was very soothing!
My fiance is heading back to Nairobi with a couple colleagues, and they will be staying at the Fairview hotel again!

We chose the Fairview Hotel based on reviews from Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. The grounds are beautiful; the security is top-notch; the food is excellent and we found it a good value. But truly, the best part was friendly, exemplary service from every staff person we encountered. The front desk person remembered us by name and helped us arrange taxi service as needed. She also gave us advice on baggage storage and late check out because our departing flight was near midnight that evening. The beverage server at the pool bar was attentive without being overbearing. The evening dining room waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and provided quick service. Every staff person we met greeted us in a friendly manner.

Our room (we upgraded to a "first" category) had plenty of space, an extremely comfortable bed and a lovely sunken bath tub/shower.

The facility is secure and we never felt unsafe. This is probably because it is located near the Israeli embassy. However, we did not walk around outside the hotel compound itself. This might be a disadvantage for some people.

If we return to Nairobi we would certainly stay at the Fairview again.

We stayed at Fairview as a stopover between landing in Nairobi and heading off on safari the next morning. The room (I think it was a first class room) was large, clean and modern. We ordered room service as we were too late for the restaurant - it was really nice. Breakfast in themorning was very good too.

We didn't get much time at the hotel which with hindsight was a shame - it was beautiful and we would say there again if passing through Nairobi.

The hotel arranged pick up and drop off at the airport for us - sorted in advance by email. All fine - no problems.

Price? I found Nairobi hotels overall were quite expensive, particularly the larger chains. The Fairview was very reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the city so in that sense represented good value. If you are looking for a place like we were as you pass through Nairobi this is certainly the place to stay.

This hotel was reviewed as number 1 hotel in Kenya by Tripadvisor and did not fulfill at all our expectations. It is TOO expensive for what they are offering. We were given a room that was not refurbished and had to pay for it the same as if it was. It was located at a distant end of the hotel, were garbage got piled up and with a terrible view to a service parking lot and a water tank. There was poor light in the room, and the floors were very dirty. It would have been ok if you payed 90 usd for the room, but not for a room for which you pay 175usd. We expressed our discontent and the administration did not provide any solution. It´s a shame because the overall services provided by the hotel (5 restaurants, swimming pool and fitness) were good. I don´t recommend this hotel because you don´t get what you pay for.

You are correct. The room you stayed in (Room 113) is a weak room and is slated for renovation next year. We have refurbished 97% of our rooms in the past 6 years and we apologize we were unable to renovate room 113 in time for your stay! We have refunded your credit card for 30% of the room rate. We hope we have another opportunity to be of better service.

Kind Regards,

Daniel

This review would have been better if it was limited only to our first visit there. We stayed there for a night on our arrival from Mumbai, and then a night on our arrival from Mahe on route to the Safari. The first time we had a lovely room which overlooked the garden and was pleasant, but we found ourself downgraded the next time, though we received no refund. The staff assured us that the rooms were of the same value.

Anyway, the Hotel arranges for Airport pickups on payment of charges, and it has a breakfast buffet which doesn't change much but is so large that you can't possibly sample everything on your first try. The Garden restaurant is pleasant and the food there is decent. The staff is helpful and the hotel drivers are friendly and largely trustworthy. On our way back from the airport the Driver gave us a heads up on our options and that made sure we caught the elephant orphanage display.

It's safe as it's located right next to the Israeli Consulate. I don't know much about Nairobi accommodation but I'd recommend this place to anyone heading to Nairobi for any reason - be it business or pleasure.

Thank you for your review.

The beauty of the Fairview is that it is very different to international chain hotels where all rooms are box standard (and all are contained in one mass of concrete)! All our rooms are a little different – this therefore implies that categorizing our rooms into 4 categories is a little challenging! Nevertheless, we think our categorization is very fair. You stayed in room 1 and room 111. The information you received was correct- both are in the “Business Class” category.

On your return stay, we will offer you a one step upgrade to First Class as we are grateful that you have taken the time to write about your stay. Listening carefully to our customers has been a key to our success!

Thanks again for your feedback.

I had only one night at the hotel, and wished I had more time to enjoy the nice surroundings. Great lush gardens, nice swimmingpool and a classic garden bar. Room ( Buisiness) was perfect. Just the type of classic Nairobi atmosphere I appreciate. Will definately stay there again when in Nairobi for buisiness, for holydays its a bit over my price range...
