“The only place to stay in Nairobi!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW via mobile

Let me be really clear: I don't find Nairobi a great city to hang out in, but do have to pass through it for work. And I cannot fault the Fairview as really the only place to stay! The gardens create a wonderful sense of space and you begin to relax as soon as you are through security.

The hotel provides different kinds of room and different eating options to suit different budgets, but frankly - with the exception of the upstairs restaurant which must be one of the most exclusive in the country - you really are paying very redo ably for what you are getting.

The ensuites are generous, the food very good, and the staff are - without exception in my experience - delighted to be of service and excellent at their job. My only reservation this week was the Christmas carols on the piano in the dining room , but that is my problem not theirs! And on my first stay, having a cool late evening drink by the pool after a challenging drive in from the airport was absolutely perfect!

Visited their Kapeo Restaurant with some friends for dinner. The usual through security check that comforts your mind. The manager this evening was not so welcoming he even suggested we move to the restaurant down stairs we were undermant of not moving, one of the waiters saved the day by offering great services to us, the food is great but the potions are small, the waiter suggested we have some wine by the bottle plus his frequently checked on us and even gave us alternatives when it was time for the restaurant to close. The pricing is abit high comparative to other hotels of the same league but a great spot for dinner and the ambience is great.

I arrived late for a stay here thanks to trip advisor reviews that I believed on. Got an economy room at a price more than one of the best hotels I stayed in few months ago. The room was too small! No bathtub, no shower cap, no bath gel, and the empty bath gel container at the shower room meant moving in and out of the room to sink region to draw more soap to shower. There was no face flannel. So this room is not meant for women's consumption. Back to the reception, I give them 5/5. Good and sumptuous meals, nice garden, quiet place. I would not come back to Fairview hotel.

Room Tip: Pay more for executive rooms to enjoy. As for me Let me go back to crowne plaza

Their are a number of very good hotels in Nairobi, but none that feel so much like a home in the city to which the leisure or business traveler will repeatedly return. The Fairview achieves pretty much everything that a top end hotel should, but without the unnecessary fluff. The rooms are spacious, cool and most importantly quiet, the beds are large and firm, the internet fast and reliable, all surrounded by wonderful gardens, a great pool, a reasonably gym. The staff are great and their are a nice range of restaurants of different budget and sophistication. The hotel is situated just out of the down town area but still a good place to stay if you are working downtown. Also great for any of the businesses that are moving to Upper hill. As most people visiting Kenya for a holiday will also find themselves spending a night in Nairobi this is also a great place to get a feel for Kenya, without being overly consciously a safari hotel.

Room Tip: Most rooms are fine and look onto the gardens

Make sure you book early. It's often full.
It has a garden setting that offers a sense of peace.
Good, reliable hotel, with some "economy" options: very small rooms that are still pretty pricey and would only suit a business traveler. However the Nairobi hotel scene is extraordinary pricey and as hotels go, this is very good.
The staff are wonderful.

We have stayed at the Fairview many times over the last 12 or so years and many of the same staff are still there and we always have a lovely welcome back. The hotel has changed greatly over the years with modernisation in different ways, but it looks good. Our gripe is that that have removed the baths and replaced them with showers and I was told that there was only one room with a bath. Before leaving Nairobi we returned to the Fairview during the day and had private meetings in the garden restaurant (at the front of the hotel) where there is free wi-fi and of course food and drinks can be ordered when required.
The hotel is opposite the Israeli Embassy and on 'the safest street in Nairobi'. Passing cars are checked and those going into the hotel grounds are also checked. After the terrible shootings in the north east of Kenya in November 2014 we were very carefully checked before being allowed along the stretch of road to the hotel. It is good to know how careful they are these days.

Room Tip: The garden rooms are in a different block and are more expensive but quiet. The rooms in the main p...

This is the only hotel I'll stay in in Nairobi. To be honest, I'm usually there for work and the hotel is booked by my organization, but all of us (it's usually a group trip) have made it clear that we don't want to stay at any other hotel - and we've tried several. The breakfast has got to be one of the best I've had and they have a great variety. The other meals are okay - not great but not bad. I particularly love the surroundings - I'm usually there with my son and mum, and my mum can take walks around the hotel and it's nice and peaceful and colourful - the garden, waterfall/pond, pool, etc - everything. I can't rave enough about this hotel. And the rooms too are an okay size and service is good - staff is very friendly. What more do you want from a hotel? Only downside is that it's a bit far from town but that's a small price to pay.
