“The best hotel after int. arrival and before exploring Kenya”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

Fot the third time we have choosen this hotel and we will come again. After a long int. flight it is good to relax in this very pleasant, country style hotel with a lot of character. Fortunately next door and included on the hotel ground is a very professional travel agent: Muthaiga travel who can arrange whatever you wishes to do in Kenya. We tried three restaurants in this hotel and all were excelent. The staff is very friendly and cooperative. Don't let the high security frighten you off! Opposite is the Israeli Embassy hence the roadblocks and soldiers outside the hotel. This is propably the safest place to stay in Nairobi. You are also minutes away from both airports (int. and nat.). The garden is lush and trhe swimmingpool worth a swim or a drink besides. No way you get the idea whilst in the hotel that you are in a African capital city with a lot of traffic and chaos outside . The hotel (open fires, leather armchairs etc.) might as well be situated somewhere in Kent, the U.K. One look at the garden and you know you are in Afrika instead.

its not one of these "cement blocks".
Feeling: this hotel has a history and did grow in the past from a small bulding to an area with seperate parts for accomondation, restaurants and other facilities.
Restaurant; several, choices ...so "la la".. from pizza to soup, steak and sandwich, few local traitionell food only. average prices. service: good, quick. Closing time: evenings pretty early!
No real good bar.
Reception stuff: quick, competent, helpfull.
Rooms: my room was huge, good equiped (badement, garden; many wood, traditionell style)
Internet: (wireless ) free, good to avarge quality, some trouble with apple equipment.
some smell in the garden (cats??)

Room Tip: Not at the pool side currently! construction nearby, very noisy.

We stayed at the Fairview twice with a safari inbetween. The first time we had a first clas room near the pool, which was spacious and comfortable, with tea making facilities. The second time we had an economy room as a day room, much smaller than the first class room, but again comfortable, and very well situated on a level above reception, and close to most of the resturaants. We ate in 3 of the resturants and found the food to be very good. The staff were very attentive and helpfull. The hotel is very well located, and it is an easy walk into the city center. We really enjoyed our stay at the Fairview and can thoroughly recommend it.

Room Tip: The first class rooms are further from reception but closer to pool.

Stayed twice in a week (with safari in between) and first time had a First Class room, which was just off the pool. In truth I found that room more like a motel room but with nicer bedding and towels but still was comfortable.

Second time I had a suite and that was very large and excellent- well worth it if you are able to take one - it felt very much more upscale and was large and had a much nicer bathroom.

It is a very charming hotel with good service (reception/porters/breakfast especially - bar staff a little aloof at times but perhaps they are trained to be in the background a bit and not engage with much conversation) and breakfast very nice. Apologies for this silly British comment - but they even had Marmite and HP Sauce to those who know those things. So they are really trying to cater to the tastes of international travellers (I can live without those things when travelling but no doubt some will appreciate them).

Would not hesitate to return.

Room Tip: Suite 391 was excellent- and super quiet

The Fairview Hotel is one of the nicer hotels in Nairobi. It is an old colonial building that has been in the same family for many years. The first thing you will notice is the very tight security. Even the entrance feels like an airline security check including an x-ray scanner for the bags. Once past the entance the grounds are absolutely beautiful. The reception staff are friendly & efficient.
The standard rooms are a bit 'boxy'. Try and stay on the ground floor near the entrance (rooms 1 to 3), they are a little larger. If you have longer hair, take your own shampoo. They provide a combo showergel /shampoo & the tiniest bar of English leather soap I have ever seen.
The rooms are basically in blocks & you need your key just to enter the block. The staff are super helpful & efficient. There is an amazing restaurant upstairs that has its own wine cellar downstairs. If you are not a patron of the restaurant you unfortunately cannot have a wine in the cellar. All the other restaurants on the property are also good with the one at the entrance serving really good pizza's and/or sandwiches. We had a conference there & the conference rooms were also nice with a great variety of good quality teas. Overall the Hotel is good value for money & right in town. The breakfast is your standard hotel fair, but tasty & well prepared.

Room Tip: Stay on the ground floor

The Fairview hotel is in a good and safe location. The hotel has good Wifi throughout the hotel. There are good restaurants and offers an excellent fine dining experience .
The down side for me personally is that I felt the hotel is slightly tired. The rooms are in need of an upgrade although reasonably comfortable. A but of luxury needs to be added. The rooms are very bland .
