“A safe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012 via mobile

Great family run hotel with attention to detail. Rooms are comfortable with fans. Pango restaurant was a highlight. Staff are friendly and the gardens are immaculate. The hotel is a safe place to be. I recommend this hotel highly.

Good security being in front of Israeli embassy.

Wilson airport is a short ride away.

Room is spacious but older style, especially the bathroom. We stayed in business room.
No aircon but airy and cool while we were there as there were big windows in the room.
Both room and bathroom were clean but bathroom lacks in amenities. Bottled water in the room would have been nice.

TV is older style. Internet is said to be the best in Nairobi but it was veerrryyyy slow and kept dropping while we were there.

We ate at the pool restaurant. Food was ok. Fruit juice was from carton but this seemed to be the norm everywhere in Africa.
Breakfast buffet had good selection.

Service was average.

Ground was nice and green and leafy.

There was a nice pool and gym whch we did not use.

This is the only brick and mortar hotel we stayed in Kenya so we had no comparison. Overall it was okay.

Stayed couple of in the hotel, once waiting for my next connecting flight and a second time taking part on a seminaire. The place is conveniently located 15 mins away from the airport (without traffic) and once there, the guests enjoy a relaxed athmosphere with plenty of gardens, restaurants, private swiming pool, confortable rooms and a feeling of safety.

The Fairview is not cheap, but neither are most hotels in Nairobi that cater to foreigners. Here is what sets the Fairview apart, in my book: huge lush gardens including a mini football pitch that's perfect for frisbee, really good security (the Israeli embassy is opposite), and good service. I wish the restaurant also featured Kenyan cuisine, but that's a small complaint in the grand scheme of things. The WiFi has also been tricky since they changed systems (especially in the economy rooms across the lane from the main hotel building) but I carry a data SIM and USB modem with me, so I don't mind (though lack of connectivity in hotels they claim to have Internet usually drive me bonkers).

Fairview Hotel is truly an oasis in the city of Nairobi. The staff are wonderful and friendly. The grounds are remarkable. Internet is fast and the breakfast buffet has been dubbed the "best in the world" by my husband. The energy here is the truly remarkable.

Pros:
- Safe location in Nairobi. Located adjacent to the Israeli Embassy, security around the entire premises was tight & armed guards checking every arriving vehicle
- Warm smiles greeting you on arrival. Competent & helpful front desk staff
- Amazing breakfast selection and quality. Great coffee too!
- free wifi
- reasonable sized rooms with comfy beds

Cons:
- V expensive hotel! Paid nearly US$200 for a business 'deluxe' room which is really a standard room in any other hotels. Didnt even have a mini-bar.
- Mixed quality rooms. We stayed on two different occasions and the room on the first night (second floor on the main building) had a much better decor and design.

Overall, we were pleased with our stay in Fairview and would return again.

We stayed here for 2 nights after arriving from the UK, and prior to embarking on a safari to the Masai Mara. Nairobi was constantly gridlocked, noisy and not very clean, but once at the Fairview peace and tranquility broke out! As mentioned in previous reviews, the gardens are delightful, and the pool area very nice. We had first class rooms, which were spacious and well appointed. We were entitled to use the first class lounge, and we found this to be an added bonus, with complimentary tea/coffee, fruit, biscuits & nuts, and local newspapers.
The food was good, and plenty of different options. Breakfast was also above average, with cooked options (eggs cooked at live station) fresh fruit and even sushi!
If we are staying in Nairobi in the future we would certainly choose the Fairview again.

Room Tip: Worth paying a little extra for first class rooms
