“Lovely old colonial-style hotel - an oasis in the middle of Nairobi!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

This was our first stop on a two week holiday around Nairobi. It is an old hotel but the amenities have been upgraded. Rooms were clean and spacious and the beds comfortable. The breakfast was amazing with an almost unlimited choice of things - catering for everyone's needs. Very secure as you had to pass through gates to get into the car park and then each guest had to go through airline type security to get into the hotel.
Staff very helpful and polite. Swimming pool was lovely although a little cold!!!

Room Tip: There were eleven of us in our group and all had different rooms and no-one complained. There was n...

What a great find--recommended by my Tanzanian safari operator. This has to be the best place in all of Nairobi. The grounds and public areas are just lovely. Our room was large, but the bathroom adequate, and room couldn't be considered a luxury. The breakfast was quite good and many options for dinner if you wanted to eat there, both inside and out in the lovely gardens. In the morning they had 2 large fireplaces going, which was fun to sit and enjoy.

I stayed here for one night at each end of a two week overland safari vacation with Africa In Focus. Both rooms I had very comfortable with great bath and shower facilities (a key consideration following two weeks of camping in the Serengeti!) In retrospect, I probably should have arrived a day earlier both for jet lag reasons as well as to take more advantage of this fine hotel. I would love to try some of their other restaurant options, other than the garden cafe and great breakfast buffet. The staff was very pleasant and helpful at all hours of the day - including my untimely arrival at 4am. Wifi internet access was so-so, not great. Apparently I wasn't the only person trying to use it during normal hours, though it worked greatly in the middle of the night!

Fantastic place. Great gardens. Loved the rock water fall. Great food at the garden restaurant.Loved their Thai chicken dish. First class fresh sushi at their Japanese restaurant. The rooms are very exceptional also. Staff very attentive to all requests. Top security with Israeli embassy nearby., Check out the steak restaurant next to the swimming pool also. Their breakfast buffet also first class. Location also very gtood with access to downtown very easy. from Upper Hill.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the main building compound and not across the street in the annex.

Stayed 2 nights pre safari in mid August in a first class room. Beautiful grounds, great staff, nice room and service the way it was 30 years ago. These people can't do enough for you. To say the hotel is in a safe area is an understatement. Guards on the road due to the Isreal Embassy across the street, a guarded gate to enter the hotel and grounds and a guarded or locked gate to enter the lobby and rooms area. When you first arrive your luggage goes through an airport type x-ray machine and you walk though an x-ray. After that you use your room key to open the entry gate and go around the x-ray machines. The first class lounge is a great place to relax but their free computer was very slow that day, about like a dialup connection. Not sure if its slow all the time as I only tryed it once. Great food and lots of choices. Easy to see why this is the number 1 rated hotel in Nairobi on Trip Advisor. I would highly recommend this hotel.
One tip is to not try to take photos of the Kenyan Army Guards on the street, we tryed but someone was in the way. When they saw us, three men ran to us and we had to show them the camera photos to prove we didn't get any pictures of them. I got the impression that had we took photos the cameras would have been confiscated.

This oasis is an absolute, classical African delight! The staff are very polite, professional, and welcoming. The rooms were extremely clean and spacious and my bathroom was something to definitely write home about! I had an elephant sized sunken bathtub and bathrobes and towels that could wrap the elephant twice! Try the tuna salad at the main patio bar and do not miss the breakfast buffet with its 6 different types of fruit juices and dozens of main dish choices. I can't wait to go back.

Thank you Aperture Academy and Odyssey Safari's for arranging our time at this incredible lodge.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms that are not attached to the lodge. I had number 61 and it was excellent!

Terrific, quiet haven in bustling Nairobi - rooms are nice, clean, with wireless Internet; several restaurants on the grounds, all good (huge breakfast buffet is especially nice!). There is a decent workout facility in the compound, with the usual ellipticals, treadmills, etc. Standard rooms are decent, if not overly roomy; if you splurge for a larger "first-class" room, you get access to upstairs lounge, which is a nice quiet place to get some work done while enjoying complimentary espresso drinks and snacks.
