“An absolute Diamond!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

My wife and I have just returned home after having stayed at the Fairview on 3 occasions, using it as a base before, in between and after our safaris to Lake Nakuru & Naivasha and Governors Camp on the Masai Mara. During the booking process I found Eric a great help, (and very patient), as we changed our arrangements a couple of times! he also arranged our airport transfer which went very smoothly.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome by every member of staff we met. The hotel itself is like a breath of fresh air in that everything is done to perfection.
We tried 3 of the restaurants and preferred the poolside which was less formal but the food was superb.
We have tried to find some small fault but have failed miserably - the bigger chain hotels could learn an awful lot from this great establishment. Security is first class as you would expect and we both felt totally safe throughout our stay.
If you are looking for a spotlessly clean hotel (inside and out), a great atmosphere and friendly staff we would recommend this to anyone.
This was our second holiday to Kenya and we will be going back - See you next year!

Room Tip: We had two different rooms and both were of the same high quality.

The Fairview is a lovely colonial period hotel. It is located in Upper Hill just to the west of the center which makes it convenient. Downtown is within walking distance.

The entire compound is walled and security is excellent. Since it is across the street from the Israeli Embassy, there are police checkpoints on all approaches to the hotel and another check at the entrance to the hotel.

The rooms vary widely. I had the chance to stay in both the main building and the annex. The rooms in the former are smallish and are rather ordinary, though it has all your mod cons. The annex is across a small street. There are key card operated iron gates on both sides. The rooms here are large and excellent. There is a wide work desk, there is a high quality robe, and the bathroom is very roomy with a bathtub. The design is very sleek and modern. There is also a private terrace with chairs outside the door. Next time I would definitely choose the annex rooms.

The main building is surrounded by lovely gardens, with lawns, waterfalls and birds. The terrace cafe faces the waterfalls. The main building has an excellent combination of open spaces. There are plenty of public spaces to sit.

There are four restaurants and I tried three of them. The one upstairs, Pango, is the formal dining room. It is popular so reservations are pretty much obligatory. The service is impeccable and food is excellent. The terrace cafe, Mukutan, is a great place to sit for drinks and reading. But the food selection is a little limited. Mitende is the other restaurant and the food is fine but not great. The breakfast buffet selection is very good. There is a gift shop which sells postcards and stamps, very convenient.

There are plenty of drivers with cars waiting by the exit gate. All the ones I have tried are friendly, knowledgeable and reliable.

This is an excellent hotel choice for couples. I want to return with there with my wife.

Room Tip: The rooms in the annex wing are bigger, better furnished and has much better facilities and amenitie...

We arrived in Nairobi after travelling for 30 hours from Vancouver, Canada, so we were exhausted. We had heard horror stories about how dangerous Nairobi is, so we were very relieved when the Fairview Hotel made good on their promise to send a driver to pick us up (800 shillings each, or about $15 for the two of us). He was friendly, courteous and helpful. When we got to the hotel we were greeted by friendly staff, a smooth check-in, gorgeous gardens and the croaking of frogs. I've never been to a hotel where your luggage has to go through an x-ray machine, but the Fairview just installed one (it wasn't in use yet) so I guess it's a sign of things to come.

The breakfast buffet was amazing. It had the best variety of any buffet I've ever been to, with both hot and cold items - and sushi! There are three other restaurants on site, all of which had fabulous, well presented, tasty and affordable dishes. Breakfast is included with your room.

The rooms were spacious but plain; the bed was comfortable with good quality sheets and towels. WiFi is included - you just have to get the password from reception. There is a swimming pool with nice loungers, but it was a bit too cool to go swimming.

Our group of six all agreed that we would stay at the Fairview again. It's only a 15 minute drive from the airport, too.

Tip: If you go, ask for a room down the hall upstairs, on the right side. We stayed one night on the left side and it got quite noisy in the early morning as the kitchen staff started their day.

P.S. There are no elevators, so it's not wheelchair friendly.

Very comfortable rooms, very clean, wifi Internet in the rooms, high quality restaurants and food. Airport pickup also went smoothly. Nice pool and facilities. Would definitely stay there again if in nairobi again.

I loved this hotel, it really is an oasis in the city and it was all the more enjoyable because we'd just been camping for 5 nights on safari. We had a first class room - huge bed / bathroom...a really nice room. Food in the restaurants was great too....I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel brochure for once is right!

A great hotel, good location, fantastic staff, fast free internet and a good price. The hotel staff are well trained and this shows in a great attitude to customer service. Makes a change from the chain hotels.

Conference facilities are very good - all seemed very seamless and effortless, but that takes lots or organisation and attention to detail.

Room service menu is a bit limited. The bar closes too early (11pm - perhaps to keep the noise down as some rooms do look out over the bar/pool area where you can eat and drink).

I can add little to previous reviews other than my wholehearted recommendation of this hotel. It appears to offer excellent value in what is an expensive city to stay. Great staff. Nice, if simple, room. The attractive grounds offer a great place to relax in a chaotic city.
