“Nice staff and good rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2009

The staff at the norfolk were nice and accomidating. The taxi service through the hotel was superb, as they had the taxis wait for us when shopping and come back after dinner. They also negotiated rates so we didn't have to. There was no elevator though so you had to walk a litttle ways and up stairs to get to your rooms. The hotel itself was beautiful and clean and the rooms comfortable. The restaurants were VERY expensive but yummy!

We stayed at the Fairmont for 4 days and really loved it. The staff were nice, the place and gardens are beautiful, the room is lovelly and the food is great. It is the very best place to stay in Nairobi. We loved the pool, and the massage also. We only disliked the internet acess that was really slow.

Just back from a week long stay at the Fairmont and I must say that coming "home" to this place each night was a pleasure. The rooms have just been renovated (we were the first to stay in ours) and look very nice and are LARGE. We had two rooms, one with desk and closets and hard wood floors and then another carpeted room with a sitting area and a bed and the bathrooms are very large (bath and shower separate).

I think the reason you may see some slightly negative reviews of this place is because people expect a completely western Fairmont experience in the third world, which, in my opinion, isn't a reasonable expectation. For example, the service in the restaurant is not always consistent, often slow and sometimes borderline negligible, but the food is pretty good (and didn't make any of us sick!!). Our shower didn't work the first day we were there, by day two it worked but no hot water, and by day three we were set (so long as you let the hot water run for about 10 minutes before showering) - to some this would be unacceptable - we were happy to have running water considering the drought.

The location was great - not quite in the city center so very quiet at night but this also allowed for the grounds to be massive. There was a beautiful gym, pool and garden area, and never saw a single mosquito while there.

Only complaint is the price - amazing to us that they can demand a hefty per night room charge - but to get western amenities while in the third world is something you have a pay for, I guess. Enjoy your stay!

This hotel in the center of town is one of Nairobi's first and premiere hotels. After recent renovations its lost a bit of its traditional and historic charm in favour of modern decor. This takes away from what made it special, unique and set it apart. When you are inside you could literally be anywhere in the world. In its favour the food and service are on point but I do feel that the rooms are over priced when compared to the competition.
