“Boring Brunch”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

I went to serena for the brunch there. It was not that great. The service team was the only thing happening. They had relatively old decor, it hasn't changed since the 90s. The food and the menu was dated and unimpressive for the price we paid. There was salmon under a lightbulb that was completely dried out. The salad section and the main course was very basic. The dessert was extremely basic and looked like it had been there since the 90s. The band was boring and quite distracting because they where not that great. It looked like they were trying too hard to be something they are not.

We stayed in this hotel at the start and end of a 2 weeks stay in Kenya. The first 2 night stay was at the end of Sept and I could not fault a thing. Although arriving early morning from an overnight flight our rooms were ready. Standard rooms are comfortable and well-appointed with everything you need. Some rooms are quite noisy, mainly due to the city centre location but it wasnt too disruptive. The breakfasts are beautiful, but I was a little disappointed that fresh Omelettes were not available at the egg station but had to be requested from the kitchen? The pool and grounds are great to relax in and the service round the pool was excellent – especially so after tipping the first time! However the service at the pool restaurant was incredibly slow with a simple lunch of buggers taking nearly 40 minutes to come so DON’T go if in a rush. The restaurant was a bit of a mixed bag too. During the first stay we had 2 good meals here but on the final stay on our last night in Kenya we had a very poor meal. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was offering a set menu Barbeque. None of our party wanted such a big meal and chose from the main menu. All of us were disappointed in some way or other. It seemed like a different place to our earlier experiences.
Just a point. When we checked in the second time there seemed to be some confusion re our reservation (as mentioned in a few other reviews.) We were given a suite – which was beautiful, if somewhat wasted on a 12 hour stay, but our friend were eventially given a double room turned down for one guest?
One thing to note. The pool was closed between our two visits. This would be a drawback to some leisure travellers and no doubt increase the noise levels in the day. Check with the hotel but it was looking like a lengthy closure.

One of the best place to stay in Nairobi. Its a 5 star and belongs to the Aga Khan Group. Have many Hotels in Kenya. Right in the city centre and is a very busy hotel because of its location. The rooms are very spacious with all 5 star comforts. The bathrooms are big enough and equiped with all toileteries. The staff is also very friendly and at times it may take some time to look in to your needs as its very busy but they do take care of everything. If you plan to go on a safari and would be returning back after few days then can keep your heavy luggage in the cloak room. Would like to mention that they have excellent breakfast served. Plenty of choices for a person who is choosy. In all an excellent place to stay when in Nairobi

I stayed here for nine days as part of a honeymoon and to meet family in Nairobi. This place is very classy, and I've not been in a better hotel in Nairobi. The breakfast buffet is possibly the best hotel breakfast I have had anywhere in the world. Most of the time there were many staff around, so getting service was easy. It is well situated for central Nairobi.

The only problems I has were that the Executive Suites were (and still are) advertised as having a veranda. Ours certainly didn't.

Check-in was not very straight forward, it took a few hours for the hotel to work out which booking was ours. Thankfully we went for lunch while they sorted it out. There were many disgruntled customers in the same situation, I suspect this hotel has some problems with reservations.

Even with the 'do not disturb' sign on the door, housekeeping frequently knocked the door to find if we had any laundry. This was mostly before 9am, and we were on honeymoon so it was not appreciated.

Oh, and the bed was very hard!

Stayed there for two night prior to S. Sudan's Independence in July. I was greeted with smiles from the day we arrived to the day we left. It was bliss. The room was ok, but we had some issues with another friend travelling into Juba. The hotel Concierge sorted that out for us. They even went the extra mile to make sure our stay would be good in Nairobi.

We had stayed at the Nairobi Serena on 3 separate occasions for business purposes, and more than 2 weeks at a time. This is one hotel I would recommend to everybody. The staff, and I mean ALL of the staff, go out of their way to make your stay very comfortable. They are very responsive to any issues you may have, and are quick to resolve them. I realize with reading one of the reviews that there were problems with the reservations, and other people booked with the same travel agency had problems with the reservations, but then that may be the issue with the travel agency and not necessarily with the hotel. I personally, would not stay anywhere else in Nairobi.
