Spent two nights - first on landing in Nairobi and again on our way out of Kenya after a hectic safari holiday on July 22nd and 28th. Was part of a package holiday we had booked. Convenient location at the centre of the city. Comfortable rooms - everything worked. Staff were helpful. The sumptuous breakfast spread with something for everyone was a great way to start one's day! Would stay again.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

I attended a convention in Nairobi in late May 2013, with the cost of my participation included a room at the "Hotel" Intercontinental Nairobi, which to some extent was reasonably priced. Request an additional room cost us around $ 260.00 USD per night which made me expensive for the city of Nairobi but the hotel claimed to be 5 stars.

Talking a little about me, I am a person who travels at least every two months and have stayed in hotels of all categories with the exception of Australia, I have been in all the continents. Traveling in luxury plan and plan backpack. And I'm not a person who criticizes slight wing.

It is a shame that a hotel that is said 5 stars offer these rooms. Dirty, grimy carpets, bathrooms deplorable fungi filled with battered furniture, broken screens, a pigsty.

We review at least 6 rooms and all of them were in the same conditions. At least 8-12 people more than they were at the convention, did the same to try to find something better to believe that their assigned room was the only one in that state. But not every one of the rooms were in the same conditions. Which gives us at least 48 rooms found in deplorable condition.

The hotel manager on duty explained to us that the rooms in 1st. floor 2do. and 3rd floor were the designated groups and effectively each and every one of them were in those conditions. (a pigsty)

If we wanted something "better" had to pay from $ 40.00 USD and up per night for an upgrade. We are speaking of $ 300.00 USD per night for this hotel???? I've seen one star hotels in better condition.

So this hotel in order to win the seat of a convention or group offers an attractive rate of a 5 star hotel, once there you put a dump and you have to pay extra to change your room to something "more better". This is abuse and theft.

In my case, thanks to my many frequent flyer plans and not after discussing for a long time I moved to the floor 6 or 7. That though was better and at least it is still "clean" a room with decor and furniture from the 70's or 80's (check several rooms before staying at this / all the same in these stories too).

Never ever this hotel and less to this hotel chain are rascals and thieves. As the corporate may allow these rooms offer.

I have many, many more photos. Just look at that I attach and decide for yourself.

Incidentally Stay in another area, here though is the center where there is nothing, no reason to stay here, not least for business and pleasure. By the way the pool reminded me of those you see in movies 50's 60's you

Room Tip: Yes, choose another hotel, or if you have the bad lucky and you already here (Welcome to the Hell) m...

Stayed here for a night in May, and found the hotel to be well located, clean and comfortable. Staff were courteous and helpful.
Got a room with a wonderful view of the iconic Kenya int convention centre.
The sports bar gets interesting at night if u r interested in some company.
I whiled away my night at the adjoining casino which was real fun.
Breakfast was sumptuous and the buffet was well spread.
Would definitely come back, for more than a night!

We stayed as a family for one night on our way to Masai Mara at this hotel which badly needs a renovation.Craked and missing floor tiles on the corridor, rooms with dingy faded decor. The only saving grace was the food at the Indian restaurant, the breakfast buffet and the friendly hotel staff.

I consider my self a world traveler, and easy going, but... I came back to Nairobi after a week's Safari, in tents and sleeping bags, and it was wonderful.

Really looking forward to stay at a supposedly great hotel like a IC for some Luxury and comfort. The first shock was when I register, the despotism and race-sit way I was treated by the girl in the front desk was clearly offensive, and I am not even white!!! I am Latin!!

She went out of her way to give us the worst rooms even do the concierge toll me before they were at 60% capacity.

We have to really loose our temper in order to have a manager hear us out, just to be moved to the next nightmare.

Dirty carpets, missing handles in the sink and shower!!!! Room 350 to be exact, all the bathtubs was stein black, really disgusting. May 30-June 2
It was all prepaid, so could not even move somewhere else

Finally the girl at customer services moved us to a better area of the hotel, but not until they realize I am an executive platinum at my airline and a Gold member at IC.

There are 7/10 better hotels in Nairobi, and probably safer, this one, you had the feeling it was going to be the target of a terrorist bomb. And the building looks like a warehouse, really tired, need millions in renovations.

Needles to say I already cancelled my next reservation in Beijing and Shanghai at the Intercontinental

The biggest joke... It was voted Best Nairobi Hotel in 2012

The service was very accomodating and attentive with the exception of one experience at the pool-side grill. The breakfast had a good selection of fresh foods, omelets, homemade pastries and jams as well as delicious fresh juices. Although it was buffet the service was prompt and we didn't have to wait around like some buffets. We checked in as part of a group but the process was smooth and organized, no wait.

Beds were comfortable but as others have noted, rooms are worn and in need of upgrade, although everything is very clean. Rooms are spacious with wide doors that open and city views. Plumbing also seems old (rusty water at times, toilet didn't always flush). The do provide free bottled water each day. Location is convenient, can walk to the park or the city market. There is also a decent gift shop on site for last minute souvenirs with reasonable prices.
