“good for business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

A great place to stay in downtown Nairobi for business travellers. Good choice of restaurants, swift room service, comfortable guest room and excellent concierge services - I asked for directions to a pharmacy and was personally escorted there :-) On the not so good side the conference room is like a cavern with no natural light and limited facilities for plugging in laptops. During my 6 night stay the internet connection was pretty bad for the first 4 days; although they acknowldeged there was a problem it took far to long to fix. Similarly with the television, missing channels and 3 days to fix. The pool is overlooked by two restaurants which I found odd, although entertainment for the diners I suppose. I managed to find fitness centre which offers massage and hairdresser where you can get a manicure but never managed to locate the spa (unless that was it!).

The rooms are so old, the beddings, furniture, and even the blinds are so outdated. The most shocking experience was the bathroom quite ancient, not clean and the towels are yellow stained.
On the contrary, the breakfast was lovely with quite a wide selection. Intercon, please renovate your rooms!

Room Tip: It is difficult to find the entrance to the hotel, it you park your car at the Hotel Parking.

This hotel can not be graded as a 5* property. Personally, I would grade this property as 2* or below based on my experience mentioned below for the 2 day stay with them.
The staff is extremely rude and the services are poor. We were not provided with our rooms till 6pm on our day of Arrival into the Hotel. Also few of the group members checked into the Hotel at 2 pm, but even they were not given their rooms till 7pm. The reason being given by the hotel staff and front desk being that the rooms were being cleaned. How could the Hotel not have rooms ready for their guest at the check in time mentioned by the hotel themselves. Even though we had booked the Hotel well in advance of our travel dates and were a large group of 13 Adults and had booked 7 Rooms, we were given all the rooms on different floors. The staff was so rude to the point that they asked the Senior Citizens (75+years) and handicapped to carry their own luggage to the Rooms.
Even though we had paid in Advance for our Dinner in the Indian Restaurant, specifically informing them that we were all Vegetarians, we were never served our meals in the Indian Restaurant. Instead we were told to have the buffet Dinner in the Coffee Shop which did not have any Vegetarian Items in the Soup section, the starter selection and just one dish was available in the main Course.
This was a total let down and they behaved very rudely and almost telling us that they were obliging us by providing whatever Vegetarian meal was available in the Buffet Section of the Coffee Shop.
Even with the Indian Restaurant having a wide choice of Vegetarian Food / Meals available for which we had made payment in Advance, we were never permitted to eat there.
It felt like being cheated by the hotel.
The house keeping services was also very lousy as they not never provided us with basic Toiletries one would expect from a decent hotel. The wifi connection was also very poor and connectivity very slow for which you are charged and you end up wasting more time and money as the 10 minute job on the internet would take minimum of an hour to get done and that too basically checking or sending out emails.
Another very bitter experience with the Hotel being that since that expect you to load, unload and carry your own luggage's both to your room and your vehicle and then they have the courage to blame you for stealing luggage from the hotel. Even after checking our 3 vehicles for the lost luggage they kept blaming us for lost luggage of another resident of the hotel which was totally unethical, rude and improper behavior of the Hotel Staff & its management.
Personally after all the bitter and bad horrible experience, we would never like to recommend this property nor ever stay here again.
This is one of the worst ever hotel that we have experienced with regards to the Intercontinental Chain of Hotel that we used in the past in other parts of the world.

Room Tip: Choose this Hotel, unless all other hotels are full and unavailable during your trip to Nairobi

This was a lovely hotel. We stayed for 3 nights and from start to finish it was great. I asked for the hotel to pick us up from the airport, they sent me numourous email confirmations which was wonderful and when I got to the airport, they were there waiting for us with a uniformed driver and a lovely car.

Check in was fast and effiecient and the room was lovely and cozy. The foldaway bed wasn't brilliant but if you that tired, you won't even notice. The staff were fantastic, always polite and willing to help. The bathroom was clean and near and the shower felt wonderful, more like a massage!

Breakfast was wonderful, such a variety that you just didn't know what to have! One night we went down to the indian restaurant but I wasn't that impressed but knowing the hotel had Halal meats and Chicken really made me feel even safer.

Would definately go there again!

If you're going to spend this much money on a hotel then you're better on staying at the Hilton. The rooms are not worth the money that you pay for it. The taxidrivers out front will charge you double then if you will walk out to the street. And the location is such that you can't walk anywhere here.
It was overall good but I wont' stay here again if simply for the location

I stayed here for 3 nights over a weekend and really would struggle to find fault with this hotel bearing in mind that it is a little dated and some modernising is needed but really you have to remember where you are. Kenya is an African country and you don’t have to look far to have an appreciation of how hard life can be. The staff were utterly delightful and courteous, the buffet breakfast was also very good and a range of choices for an evening meal all very good indeed. Most nights there is some kind of entertainment on but even so the ambience of the hotel belies its corporate chain feel. My room possibly could do with some updating but it was clean and comfortable and I can't imagine why anyone would have cause to complain. The hotel has quite a good gym (it does get warm in there despite the best efforts from the aircon you will struggle in the heat) and the pool is not bad either and probably the warmest I've been in. All told this is a good hotel - tons of westerners use it for their safari experience as a base and I never heard a single grumble. There is also a business centre and shopping too so really it's a great hotel and made especially good by the staff; lovely delightful people. There are 2 things to note - one is the room internet is too slow for Skype video calls the other is for the gentleman readers - you may see a few (extremely) attractive girls in the hotel that appear to be on their own (at the bar). These are not damsels in distress and need a shoulder to cry on, they are serious working girls; don't both them and they will not bother you - that big disease with the little name is rife in East Africa. Enough Said.

The good thing about this hotel is that you get the quality and standards that you are used to from the intercontinental group - at least mostly.

The rooms are nice, bathrooms are a bit small, but feature proper amenities and are reasonably clean.

The pool terrace restaurant, at which breakfast is server desperately needs some overhaul. Unfortunately it gives the hotel a cheapish 3 start feeling.

All in all an ok 2 night stay, but we had much better in other hotels in Nairobi before. If you wish to be spoiled with luxury at a cheaper rate then the Intercontinental look for the Sankara in the Westlands!

Room Tip: ask for one of the renovated rooms!
