“3 nights at the Intercontinental”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012 via mobile

As an Ambassador member I should be upgraded automatically
The staff didn't offer it so I had to ask for it
It took some time to find a available suite
I didn't get a fruit basket, bottle of wine and a small gift- again had to ask for it
The room are nice and clean but some emenities are missing -like toothbrush
Club lounge is nice fully equipped and the staff is very helpful
I enjoy my stay ther as always

We stayed at Intercontinental hotel in Nairobi during our Wildlife safari trip to Kenya and Tanzania. The hotel location is excellent and well within walking distance to shopping including a bazzar where you can purchase African crafts at good price. The hotel room on our initial stay (2 nights) was great and had an excellent view of the city. On our additional one day stay, the room was on the second floor facing the roof. This was not particularly good but we stayed only for one night and it was tolerable. Breakfast buffet (included) was excellent and for vegetarians there were plenty of items to choose from.

Front desk was not particularly efficient but staff was courteous.

Not all rooms have ROUND three pin electric socket. So, you definitely need FLAT PRONG adaptor for charging mobile phones or camera battery. If you forget, don't worry. About 5 minutes walk from the hotel you can pick one up at Nukumatt for about USD 1.50.

I would stay at this hotel again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Suggest request 4th or 5th floor and city view. Avoid rooms on the 2nd floor facing roof

Dear Bhujwalla,
Thank you for having chosen to stay with us during your Safari Trip to Kenya. We hope that your overall experience was worthwhile and are particularly delighted to learn that you enjoyed your stay with us.
Your feedback and specific mention of the breakfast buffet selection is highly appreciated. With the anticipation of the need for the round pin sockets, adapters are readily available at the reception or for delivery to the room on request through the Guest Service Center. We apologize for any inconveniences that may have been experienced as a result.
Should it be on your next business or Safari trip to Kenya, we certainly look forward to welcoming you back to Intercontinental Nairobi.
Kind Regards,

Stayed at the Intercontinental for 2 nights starting 3rd August.

The check in was efficient and fast . I was given a room on the 6th Floor which was of a decent size though otherwise average. Even though I am a platinum card holder, was not given an upgrade. The hotel certainly needs to be refurbished - rooms are dated and tired and Bathrooms have fittings that belong to another age and do not work properly.

During my stay, Hillary Clinton too was a guest at the hotel and it seemed the hotel and staff existed only for her and her staff. Entrances were blocked ( at one time I wasted over 2 hours on the road trying to access the hotel). Residents were not allowed the use of regular elevators and were subjected to severe security checks on entering the hotel. On checking out, all guests had to walk a distance with luggage to the waiting cars which were not allowed entry into the hotel.

The only plus of this hotel is it's central location .

This is certainly not a 5 star hotel. I have stayed in much better 4 star hotels including hotels belonging to the group. It badly needs to be refurbished and interests and comforts of guests need to be taken care of.

I would not stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is not the newest one in the city but it is clean and well located. A could however use a renovation.

Everything was according to the InterCont standard you can expect in this part of the world; there was no reason for complaints.

The staff was friendly and the breakfast buffet offered all well presented and of good quality.

The location is excellent walking distance to the central business district, next to Uhuru park and the parliament and a nice view on both of them from my room. Free parking in the hotel garage for hotel residents is definitely a plus in this part of Nairobi. The hotel is good but needs some renovation. Rooms are still good but the a bit outdated and just not what you expect in a 4* international hotel. However if you book with a weekend rate like we did you will get very good value for money; very nice public areas, lounges, a choice of restaurants, nice big rooms, huge breakfast buffet, free use of the fitness centre , swimming pool and free parking in the centre of Nairobi

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the front side of the hotel

This hotel has very mixed reviews on the site for a reason....The experience is very mixed.

As noted by others, the staff are delightful but not always terribly efficient. However, the rooms are tired, some of the cheaper ones in particular ....very musty, smelling of old socks.

Nice bathroom amenities. Beds comfortable enough, though some of the sheets old and bobbly (once I got a good pair, I asked for bed not to be changed. Very good blackening out curtains

Food in Indian restaurant OK...though not nearly as good as a few years ago. Room service took over an hour to arrive and was also OK, although they will make you anything you like even if not on the menu.

Initially, I gave this an average rating but on reflection, having stayed in half a dozen other hotels in Nairobi, this is the worst. You can really do better e.g. the Sankara and I have to say that even the 4 star Fairview was a better experience.

Room Tip: Do upgrade from the cheapest category of rooms if you have to stay here
