“Very nice hotel, an oasis in busy Westlands”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011 via mobile

Stayed at the Southern Sun Mayfair during a recent business trip to Nairobi. Last time I was here was 3 years ago when the hotel was a holiday in. Nothing much has changed since then. Decent hotel in the upscale Westlands. Close to Sarit Center and Westgate. Limited dining options in hotel, but poolside breakfast buffet is pretty darn good. No a/c and no screens on windows, so mosquitoes can be an issue. Friendly attentive staff. Great wireless Internet gratis. Decent value for Nairobi.

Nice hotel with open space,
v nice spread of food and children will enjoy the place.
Food spread is also good and the resturant is adjacent to the swimming pool and open area.
Overall a good relaxed beginning to someone on the kenya Safari!

I stayed here along with my colleagues for a business meeting. The hotel has a colonial feel to it and is very well maintained. The food was great and everything is close by. The rooms were good enough for a business stay but I would not have liked them if it were a vacation. Given that the whole property has lot of trees, you are bound to have lot of mosquitos around.

Beautiful hotel, it's got real charm, but they could improve on their service.
Booked airport transfer which didn't arrive, booked transfer back to airport and after waiting 30 minute had to flag down a taxi.
Also Got woken at six, politely by a wake up call that wasn't ordered and a friend of mine didn't get his wake up call the next day.
Room was by the pool which had a restaurant, even after it closed there was a lot of noise cleaning up. Plates banging, they could have done it quieter or better at another time.

Nice room, good service! The hotel is located in the Westlands area of Nairobi, close to shopping, hospitals, and good places to eat and drink. The hotel grounds are very nice, lobby is impressive, and the rooms are well furnished and clean.

This hotel is not cheap, but quite outdated, the rooms are clean and small and only good for short stays, the location is good considering nairobis traffic issues. The best thing about this hotel is the breakfast buffet. The hotel lacks the appeal of a world class hotel and they really need to do something about it as the prices are not cheap and the offerings are not value for money. But well i guess its the same with most old hotels in big cities you actually pay for the location more then anything else!

Room Tip: Dont get the rooms facing the street, they are very noisy!

I have stayed in this hotel over many years and the current management have improved it substantially. Food was first class (reflecting the current G.M.'s background). Rooms were comfortable. Staff friendly and always helpful. This will be my first choice of stay on my next visit to Nairobi.
