“A decent hotel but pricey.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2011

Stayed here for 10 days in May 2011. Will start off with the negative points. At $215 B&B is a bit expensive. The room I had was fairly small and basic. No air conditioning, only a noisy ceiling fan. No mini-bar either. TV was small and the picture on some of the stations wasn't the best.
On the positive side of things, staff friendly and helpful. Security very good. Nice area next to the pool where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or a beer. The main hotel restaurant does an excellent breakfast, lots of choice and staff are great. Free wireless internet throughout the hotel, speed pretty good and reliable. Taxi's available outside the hotel throughout the day and night.
Adjoining the hotel is a Spur steakhouse where you can sign meals and drinks to your room. Food is good but the place is infested with hookers who can be a real pain. It is fairly obvious that the girls give the Spur staff a few KSH as they come and go as they please at all hours of the day. The hotel needs to do something about this as eventually it put me off going into the Spur for a beer or a bite to eat.
So if they can get rid of the girls, I would recommend the hotel as it isn't bad at all.

I travel for business in Nairobi at least 6 times per year and I always stay to the Mayfair because it's close to my office. The place, especially the garden, is superb. Unfortunately the service is horrible. The food is bad and you barely have no other choice but to eat at the buffet, which is always the same and so expensive. If at least they could offer different pricing options for when you only want a light buffet and not the full board thing. Rooms are OK and being renovated. Some are noisy and very small. Ask to change if it's the case.

Very nice colonial style Hotel, very good Service and Food. Very fair Price. You can capture the spirit of Kenya. Mans Trips to the Parks available, so if you are Looking for a Romantik Spot or a nice Business Hotel, you are just right. Enjoy ;). Pickup Service is very good, just make sure you don't drive during the Rush Hour, otherwise there is a good Chance you get stuck in Traffic.

As usual the service, friendliness and efficiency of the staff at this hotel is the winning aspect. However, it's ambiance, service, enviroment and comfort also make for a very enjoyable stay.

During the month of February I had the pleasure of staying at the Southern Sun three times. Evrything was just right - the room service, the restaurants, the pools, the business centre, the car parking and the front desk but above all, it was the quality of friendly service. I shall certainly stay there again, the next time I am in Nairobi.

Stayed 9 nights on buisiness and ony the Naironi traffic caused concern. The Hotel was very good, staff, food,, facilities staf, all very acceptable. Thre were no issues for any of us. The rooms were roomy (UK plugs) and the bathroom fine. Plenty of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The gym is well equiped, the pool 'fresh' and clean.

The gardens are well tendered.

There is a funfair nearby - but this did not effect me in my room. Local restaurants nearby and the shopping mall is 10 mins walk away.
