“a sanctuary so close to the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

We have walked in the Karura Forest reserve a few times (and will do so again) the forest is spectacular, especially when the river is flowing strongly and the waterfall is thundering. This is a walk well worth having on your list of things to do

“Karura Forest next to Gigiri”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

It's a very nice forest where you will most likely see monkeys at the very begining, you have a nice river that turns into some kind of falls, it's very good to go there with family or friends.

“A Gem of a park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

A great outdoor ramble right within the city and very tourist friendly. Unique and a feature that Nairobi and Kenyans can be very proud of.

Plenty of couples and young families and people out for a run or a cycle - although I went by myself (always a risk when hiking) there were people around without it feeling like the place was crowded. There are also places where you can just sit and enjoy the peace and tranquility

The paths are wide and although in many places they are unpaved the surface is flat and stable - so you don't need hiking boot..

Get a map of the forest at the gate - it is well worth it.

Read up on the forest and Wangari Maathai (Nobel Peace Prize winner) and the struggles to establish (an protect it from unethical characters) the forest to really appreciate this green gem in Nairobi.
