“Serene Place in the heart of the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

If you love to lay on green grass after a difficult morning and thank God for life. This is the place to be especially in the afternoons when the sun is out. This is where the US embassy used to sit since independence and the first ever bomb blast in Kenya brought it down in 1998. All the people who died here have their names inscribed on a wall. Loved ones come to give their respects with flowers and prayers.

The management charge a minimal entry fee for maintenance and you can bring a picnic basket with your kids or lover. We paid Kshs. 20 each with my best friend but they did not charge anything on my son who was 2yrs. I am not sure if that has gone up with the economic hardships.

“Every American needs to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

This is constant reminder of what people have suffered because of terrorism. Every American visitor is encouraged to pay tribute to the people who perished. A beautiful place to spend the afternoon amidst the noisy Nairobi.

“The real memorial is indoors.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

On my 4th trip to Kenya last month, I finally had time to visit the US Embassy memorial. Inside the compound, there is indeed a small, grassy park -- quite full of Kenyans doing various activities on the afternoon I visited. Other than the outdoor plaque with the victims' names, the memorial itself is in a small building on the grounds. It is jam-packed with photographs and materials. I found it to be both interesting and moving. The memorial also shows a film -- about 30 minutes long -- about what happened. It had kind of an odd tone (kind of like a 1950's/60's era propaganda film, to me at least), but I found it very informative. The embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania are not often discussed in the US. I learned a lot from my visit.

“Nice Escape Inside the City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

Nice escape if you are already in the city center, but not worth driving INTO the city center to see.

“Used to be quiet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

My secret getaway. It used to be quiet, and with not as many people. I could sit and read a good book there, but now, its overly crowded, with seats and groups of people everywhere. The Garden should have wireless internet, or a room, or section of the garden should be reserved for those with laptops. Charges 100 shillings or more to enjoy and surf.
