“Rooms by the hour??????????????”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Very cheap, rooms shabby, sheets worn, we arrived late in the evening, no drinks or tea available, one young girl on duty......several young men trying to book rooms for a short period and then young "ladies" arrived...need I say more!
No breakfast availalbe...chef diid not turn up...I had to wake the same young girl in the morning who was asleep in reception on the sofa.
Ok if just wanting a bed for the night, but VERY shabby. Shower available but broken. I
do not recommend this hotel at all.... was very glad when morning came.
very pretty gardens.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

The Sirona is a very friendly place in a nice garden setting, making it a rather unique offering in Nairobi at its price. The public areas - bar, terrace, guest lounge, and restauruant - are nice and cozy in an old-fashioned way. The rooms are characterful but basic and have not seen much maintenance in a while. They have parquett floors, bare white-washed walls, and a wood-clad ceiling, a comfortable bed with mosquito net, desk and wardrobe. There is a TV receiving one program. The bathrooms are old and mine had several broken fixtures, but everything I needed worked. The place is reasonably clean but not to Swiss standards. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in a gentrifying part of Nairobi and it is safe enough to walk about, yet there is not much to see in the immediate eighbourhood. However, the National Museum is in walking distance as are a number of academic institutions. If the hotel won't get renovated in the near future (and it has real potential), it may get knocked down to be replaced by condos like those on surrounding plots.
Overall, the hotel is nice but guests should know that it is not a luxury place and requires accepting a few compromises. I'd recommend it for a short stay for those who value the garden setting over more modern ammenities.

The photographs give a somewhat distorted view of the hotel. True, it is situated in fine grounds and is very quiet but the hotel is old and tired and desperately in need of some paint and fresh curtains etc etc. The superior bed was spacious and comfortable, the shower worked well, but the TV had only 4 channels and almost unwatchable picture quality. Breakfast was poor. The staff were in the main helpful and did what they did with a smile. The place just didn't feel comfortable. Perhaps it was because the car park security guard on arrival was dozing in his chair and then asked for tea money - before he had done any work (although they do chain and padlock the gates at night). A good value stay but I can't say that I will return unless absolutely necessary.
