Visiting the house of " I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills" puts much of the film Out of Africa" (Meryl Streep/Robert Redford etc) into context. The house and grounds are simply wonderful and the tour guides knowledgeable. It is not badly priced either.
the karen blixen museum (her house she actually lived in with her husband) and the coffee garden (near by on her former grounds) are worthwile a visit. we liked the authenticity of the house, you get the feel of how it was to live there. The garden serves good cappuccino, the food we did not taste yet, but we will be back wednesday since at wednesdays they have live jazz music from 7pm, there is a big restaurant and the food looked good last sunday with the BBQ and salads they serve each sunday for lunch. many people from northern europe (norway, denmark ecc) come here. we did not like the price, the cappuccino was almost twice as much as in nairobi town.
The giraffe center was really nice but the Karen Blixen home was just so-so. Not a big "Out of Africa" fan, I admit.
The Giraffe Center is wonderful, so up close, Warthogs too! It is wonderful to see the very young children visit the Center, eyes wide open!
The Karen Blixen Museum is a must. Extremely well run tours given by a most experienced staff.
Thirty minutes from our hotel door and only a short time in the park, we saw black and white Rhino, lion, zebra, giraffes, cape buffalo, wildebeest, etc. No elephants in this park, though. I'm very glad that we came here.
