My family--myself, husband and 2 teenage children--visited the African Heritage House in August 2012. We found it to be absolutely enchanting. The proprietor, Alan Donovan, is a consummate host with immense knowledge of the continent and its artisans. He has spent many years collecting, promoting, and preserving the works of African artists of all mediums, and the Heritage House is a monument to his efforts, serving not just as a unique bed and breakfast, but a fascinating showplace for many of these works of art.
The house is conveniently situated just 10 minutes off the highway from Jomo Kenyatta Airport. It is perched on a hill, with the back of the property providing expansive views of the adjacent Nairobi National Park, and as far as the eye can see is open land. The rooms are beautifully appointed, and the food excellent. A matter of fact, the dinner we had there was the best I have had in a long time, either in Kenya or America. Alan was very friendly, taking time to personally give us a tour of the house and its contents and join us for dinner, making us feel very much at home.
If in Nairobi, the African Heritage House is definitely worth a visit.
