We stayed one night at this camp, but should have stayed more! Our local travel advisors (Eland Safaris) recommended this place for our last day in Nairobi following a ten day safari in Kenya and Tanzania. They had personally checked out the location and when we looked on TA it had perfect ratings. Well it lived up to our expectations and more.
Some of our group were a bit wary about camping, but this is really luxurious and hard to call camping. Yes, there are canvas walls, but you have your own toilet, shower and washbasin adjacent to the bedroom. The accommodations were very, very nice. There are eight tented units on the side of a slight hill, with a veranda at the front. You can get a shower on request (water is heated over a fire and carried to a large sack next to your bathroom.
The camp is the only one in Nairobi National Park. It is very close to the city and airports, but the park itself has plots of wildlife to see, including lions, rhino, hyenas, eland, giraffes, etc.. We saw a lot on our one game drive, including lions stalking and attacking eland. We also took a visit to the David Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary.
We arrived late afternoon and were greeted by a very hospitable and friendly staff, who carried our bags from the parking area to the tents. The lounge area was wonderful, as was the dining tent. After checking in, we sat around a wonderful fire sipping wine (all drinks included) talking to Kim, the manager. Monkeys passed overhead on their way to their overnight spots providing entertainment. There are Masai employees all around the camp to escort you, since wild animals are all around. It felt very safe.
We had a wonderful dinner sitting on comfortable sheepskin clad seats (see previous TA reviews). All of the meals were superb; we even got a recipe from the chef for a courgette salad which just wowed some of our party. The service was excellent throughout our stay. The staff were very attentive and gracious. Everyone gave this place the highest rating, even the non-campers and regretted that we did not stay longer to just relax.
If you have some time in Nairobi, even just a night, give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.
