The simple facade hides a beautiful boutique hotel with the quality touches that make you feel special - excellent rooms, superb linen, a modern feel, high quality technology, and warm and welcoming service. And don't under-estimate the conversation value of the surprise ceramic animals at turn-down time! Staff in the restaurant are charming and helpful, and the quality of food from room service to the restaurant and intriguing rooftop bar is consistently high standard. The only thing - don't expect to swim at dusk as you are then entertainent for the bar guests! Lovely stay, I would stay again in an instant!

Room Tip: See if you can avoid overlooking the car park, but most rooms seemed very quiet

I have just had four nights in this hotel on a business trip. You can't fault it really: the room was big and provided me with all the extras such as an umbrella and lots of water. It's modern, and there are some interesting works of art displayed. A nice touch is that you get a little pottery animal by the bed each night. The service is very attentive. The swimming pool on the roof is a good place to go and sit (there is no garden) and they are not pushy about trying to sell you drinks etc up there. It can get very full in the evenings as it is a local night spot. Particularly bearing in mind that Kenya is not the safest of places, there is commendable security, friendly, but you feel that you are safe in the hotel. We had some early starts, so it's worth remarking that they start breakfast at 6 in the morning. The food was 'international' but of a good standard, and the buffet in the evening looked very appetising. Just outside the hotel, the chaos which is the centre of a big city is everywhere, but in the hotel itself, there is a calm atmosphere. A single, female traveller would feel completely safe here.

Dear 25ajp,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our facilities and our signature turn down amenity in the Sankara seven figurines. Security is of paramount importance for us at Sankara and we are always looking at ways to improve on our already stringent measures. I have been a regular guest at Sankara for around 4 yrs now. Service generally is of a good standard but sometimes can be patchy but sevice is always with a smile. The coffee in the expresso bar and cafe on first floor is great and a good alternative to a full breakfast at the main restaurant. I love the turndown animals made locally in support of pcreating jobs for local people. Instead of a boring choc you pget one of a set of minature locally stone carved animals. John on the front door gives the best welcome back smile and front desk get to know regulars too which is a nice touch from the impersonal large chains. Good location in Westlands with a rooftop outdoor bar that pulls a great eclectic crowd. Great for people watching. Pices like everywhere for hotels in Africa are not cheap but it is a cut above many offerings. Many local restaurants and bars locally and reasonably safe if you are sensible outside. Tip - Gypsys just up the road is a good spot for drinks music and food. Friday nights bring in the crowds.

Room Tip: Some rooms receive some external noise from generators or plant next door. Rooms on flr 2-4 on nth...

Dear indigoblu,

Thank you for your review; and for choosing the Sankara as your home away from home over the last four years. Our signature Sankara seven turn down figurines allows you to take a little piece of the Sankara away with you. I am sure you have built a small collection over the years which we hope will remind you of your memorable times in Kenya. We do look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to Nairobi to enjoy a drink and unwind at our roof top Sarabi Supper club after a long day's work.

With Warm Regards

This is the most lovely hotel ever in my opinion, it has spectacular rooms and great food. The only things I don't really like about it is that it had a door which leads to the street which in my opinion is not very safe and the fact that the pool is not very clean and it has bugs in it. Otherwise I completely recommend this hotel. The security is good and everyone who works there is very nice.

Room Tip: Most rooms are quiet but I suggest the third floor or up.

Dear Angelina T,

Thank you for your review; and for choosing the Sankara on your most recent visit to Nairobi. We are happy to hear that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed our facilities; especially our menu offerings. We have recently re-opened a new steak house restaurant, Graze, and we are excited to have you come back and try the new cuisine. Though Hotel entrances leading into a street are not uncommon in many parts of the world, we are continuously investing in Security equipment & technology to ensure the safety and security of our guests; with our most recent Safe Hotels Executive Level certification being a stride towards this goal. We do hope that you will choose to stay with us again on your next visit to Nairobi.

The Sankara Hotel was lovely! It was like living in an art gallery for 2 was - art work for sell by local artist was through out the hotel. Very comfortable bedding and great staff. The fitness center was great overlooking the main road in Kenya! The food was amazing - great seasoning & spices (but a little pricy). Complimentary gift each night! The gift shop sells items from local groups and donate a portion of the sells back to the villages - great partnership! Great Hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms facing front of the hotel!

Stayed in a club room at the Sankara for a 4 night business trip and couldn't have been more pleased. Impeccable service from all staff we encountered. Poolside bar/restaurant was a treat to come home to. Club staff went above and beyond to meet our needs - including organizing packed lunches for our small film crew on short notice. Rooms were always spotless. A truly exceptional stay.

Came to Nairobi with mixed expectations having travelled through East Africa but was truly surprised by how good this place was. I ended up staying 5 nights and loved every moment.

The main restaurant is outstanding. Each of the buffet dishes I had was fantastic and the desserts are to die for. I still dream about the macaroons. The pool side restaurant is more cafe than anything else and also serves hookah. I spent a good few nights drinking wine and working on the deck. Brilliant.

The rooms are simple and clean with the normal luxury style bathroom (closed off toilet with the room lit by blinds to the main room).

The only down side I found was the transport with the drivers arriving late to fetch me a few times which is why I haven't rated this hotel as 5 stars. This problem is surprising given how friendly and helpful the transporter only desk lady was.

The hotel is expensive, but that's because it caters for businessmen. I will however request it again when I'm in Nairobi.
