I stayed in Milimani Backpackers for two nights over a weekend, and it was the perfect base for a quick exploration of Nairobi. Dorms are very clean and comfortable, and a towel is provided. The outside bar/restaurant area is an excellent place to relax over a beer and some simple, filling and inexpensive food, and plays excellent music courtesy of Nairobi Xfm. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and can help you organise both tours of Nairobi and longer tours in Kenya. I would advise against taking the taxis organised by reception - the set rates tend to be more expensive than those you can negotiate for yourself. This is less convenient however. Overall, as backpackers go, an excellent experience and I will return next time I'm in Nairobi.

Milimani really contributed to my experience in Nairobi. The staff are exceptional, and I loved that they have a good restaurant outside where everyone gathers for dinner each night. It was easy to meet other travelers of all ages and share travel stories. I went on a safari to the Masai Mara, which I booked through the hostel, and it was good value. Keep in mind that this is definitely basic accommodations (dorms/a few singles/tents) but all in all comfortable and only a fifteen minute walk down a safe road to town. They also have ton of DVDs for lazy days.

There are not many options in the budget category in Nairobi. The room was very small--bunkbeds with very little room even for your pack. The atmosphere is friendly and congenial. WiFi was there but did not work most of the time. The restaurant/bar area was convenient for quick breakfast (not included-not expensive) but not great. I would recommend Milimani because I don't thinbk there are few options.
