“Mediocre hotel, cheap but not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2009

I stayed four nights at this hotel in October 2009. The price was good for Nairobi, around US $70, but I can't recommend it. The hotel is old and lacks modern amenities. There's a terrible internet room with slow computers tucked away on the 2nd floor. There's a loud casino/disco on the ground floor and meeting rooms on 2nd floor that blast music quite late. The bar & restaurant served mediocre food, was overpriced, and was unenjoyable. As a single, male traveler, I really didn't appreciate the local women in the restaurant aggressivly attempting to engage me in conversation and more. The beds were old and saggy, bathrooms dirty, hot water sporadic, and no screens on the windows allowed many mozzies in. It seems popular with African travelers, I saw many Somali, Ethiopian, and West African guests there. That was interesting to me, but the only other positives are the price and downtown location.

I was in Nairobi for two days whith my wife in 680 Hotel. But outside the hotel is big, inside the furnitures are old, the room is small, in the bathroom i had a used soap. Some sockets don't run, there isn't the remote controlfor the tvt, the room is for two guests but there is only one used soap, one chair, one bedside table. If you want take a shower, there isn't the shower holder. ....

We stayed in hotel 680 on the last night of our trip before going to the airport the next morning. We arrived there after a horrible 14 hour bus journey from Dar es Salaam on which I had be extremely sick. I was dehydrated, looked like hell and was being sick far too much. They ladies at reception were extremely kind they got help to take us to our room asap and called a doctor. The doctor cost and the hotel staff escorted my boyfriend to the cash machine to pay for him. Turns out that I had a nasty case of food poisoning. In the morning the reception staff gave us a wake up call and very kindly asked how I was on the phone. They then arranged for a car to take us to the airport and to swing by a pharmacist on the way to pick up supplies. I can not thank them enough they certainly went out of their way to be as helpful as possible. The standard of the hotel was fine and I wish I could have stomached the breakfast it looked amazing. Thank you for all your help during my stay xxxx

Good points : Staff friendly and efficiant and the room was immediatly available.
The breakfast was hot and adequete. Walk out of the hotel and ATM,s , shops , resturants , bars all within a short walk. Car parking immediatly outside the hotel.
BAD POINTS as far as we were personnaly concerned. The bathroom did not have any plugs in the sink or bath, The shower head had to be hand held. Shoddy decoration pervaded throughout. The mini fridge did not work, the tv flickered all the time , and the room was very small. The lift had a mind of its own. There was no outside seating i.e garden or court yard. You could not charge extras to the room.

Wow – what a dump! We got stuck in Nairobi during the Kenya Airways strike and this was the “hotel” the Airline put us at. The nightclub went until 4 am – and it was so loud in our room you didn’t miss a lyric – just like you were on the dance floor.

Nothing about the room was clean – the bathroom was of particular concern. We ended up sleeping in our clothes as the sheets were stained and marked. Had it not been midnight before we got “dumped” at the hotel we would have found some place else to stay. The non-solicitation poster in the elevator should give you a clear idea of their regular clientele.

Good, clean room on the 10th floor- beware, there was no screen on the windows so if you have a kid or little one-be careful!!!! Staff was helpful and it's basic bathroom but it got the job done the night I stayed there. Bed was huge and comfy.
