“Not bad at all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2011

I stayed at Sentrim 680 hotel in September 2011 for five days. Having heard about the noisy restaurant close to the hotel, I was careful enough to request beforehand (by email) that I wanted a 'quiet' room. The room I got was on the far side of the noisy place, and I could still hear the music until late night on most nights...but it wasn't too bad.

The hotel itself was kind of minimalist but clean. There is a security guard on every floor--this seems to be the Kenyan standard for all hotels. The beds were made for the first two nights, but not thereafter. The bathroom was clean and functional.

Please do not change currency at the hotel--their offer was KES 80 to the USD, whereas I finally managed to get KES 99 to the US (at UN Offices at Nairobi). The internet is also somewhat expensive at about KES 900 per 24-hour interval, but it worked fine.

Overall, the 680 was reasonable value for money at about USD 80 per night. The location is right off the downtown arterial road, and is therefore excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a 'quiet' room

Sentrim 680 Nairobi - The security in this hotel is excellent, although somewhat unnerving as there are guards on each floor. We liked the feeling this provided especially downtown Nairobi which, we are told, can be dangerous. We were disappointed in the lack of air-conditioning but we had hot water throughout the day and a private safe in our room. The staff were helpful and the lady at the concierge desk was very friendly and personable (and gave us excellent suggestions for dining), as were the porters who managed our luggage in between travel quickly and effectively. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated, and likely new refurbished. The bathroom was clean as well. We faced the front of the building so we had no problems with noise. Even the main street in front quieted down by 11 pm. We were a bit put off by the casinos in the buildings and the cigarette smoke but it did not permeate into our rooms. Select one on the 5th floor as it's non-smoking and cleaner apparently. Also, the front of the building is away from the casinos in the building and are quieter than the rest. The breakfast was good, fresh with lots of choices.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the 5th floor as it's non-smoking, cleaner and apparently refurbished.

A good hotel in a very good location. Very safe with lots of security. Medium price range. Rooms basic but very clean and recently renovated. A good relaxing bar within the hotel

Room Tip: You must ask for a room at the back of the hotel, away from the main street and the nighclub directl...

At least 30 mins for check-in. Rooms are very basic - no aircon, beds very basic. No hot water in the mornings. Free loud music the whole night from a bar/pub nearby. Good luck!

Though very central the 680 is very noisy from the inside with phones ringing at all hours and from the outside thanks to clubs. The staff are very variable and some will openly beg money from you. Bar is full of working girls who can be quite pushy.

I'm suprise to see so many bad reviews for this hotel. We stayed there few days in August 2011 and we realy like this place. Rooms are not to big but clean and cosy, there is nice restaurant, wireless inrernet access. And the hotel staff were very nice and helpful for us. We kept all our valuable items in room safe box and we felt secure. The security staff , which is on each floor always smile to us and when he saw us he push the lift buttom for us. I agree, there is a litte noise at night, because Sentrim 680 is located in centrum of Nairobi, surranded by many restaurants and shopping center. But the price is realy good, you cann't find anything better in Nairobi for this price.
It was realy good choice for us.
