Owner description: The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) Elephant Nursery in Nairobi National Park provides a safe haven to orphaned baby elephants rescued by the DSWT. The Nursery provides the first stage in the hand-rearing and development of milk dependent baby elephants. Once they graduate from the Nursery, aged 2-3 years, the elephants move to one of the DSWT's Reintegration Centres in Tsavo East National Park, from where they will ultimately return to the wild.

“What a treat to experience these magnificent creatures”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

This trust has been operating saving elephants and rhinos from poachers for decades. They do amazing work retrieving these animals from the wild and rehabilitating them to return to the wild. They offer an opportunity to foster one of the animals and then foster folks can visit at a special time that allows you to get up close and personal with your adoptee. Should be a definite on your list of what to visit in Nairobi and seriously consider helping by fostering!

“Elephants very close”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

We saw a lot of baby elephants very close. Personally, I prefer seeing them in the wild, but it's a good thing they try to rescue these baby elephants.

“Interesting and Educational”

The Elephant Orphanage is open one hour each day. It is well worth the visit. You get to see and learn about the young orphaned elephants.

“Elephant Sanctuary. where the DSWT does truly amazing work. Have visited over 25 times and will be back to witne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

.An uplifting place where the DSWT does truly amazing work. Have visited the Nairobi Nursery over 25 times and will be back again and again to witness the dedication of the team and to continue my support both emotionally and financially. Please join us to help save elephants from extinction......yes extinction in 2025 if the poaching continues. Sign petittions, write to your governments, write to MP's, (hopefully they will listen) ambassadors, country leaders. We must stop the ivory trade. DID YOU KNOW ONE ELEPHANT IS KILLED FOR ITS IVORY EVERY 15 MINUTES. Please help the DSWT and other organisations. Remember...Extinct is forever. Thanks for caring.

“do not miss!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

If you go to Kenya to see animals, you cannot miss the baby elephants at the Sheldrick...it's an experience that's almost indescribable. I was so moved by the work they do that my family 'adopted' a baby for me.
