“A very special day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

I would say this is a must for any visitor or local to experience. I wish more elephants could be saved and returned to the wild. Such a sad state of affairs that poaching still exists in this day and age. I might go back again on this trip even.

“Adorable elephants, wonderful survival stories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

Watching the orphans at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is truly an eye opening experience as to the smarts and emotional capabilities of these wonderful young elephants. It is fascinating to learn about their day-to-day lives with their trainers, whom they are extremely fond of and attached to. The care and dedication these trainers give to the little elephants is awe-inspiring. The one hour where tourists get to enjoy being in the presence of the elephants is incredibly entertaining as they get to watch the animals in a natural environment as they are eating leaves, rolling around in the mud and playfully wrestling one another. When we were there, there was also an orphaned rhino that was being housed there, and we had the pleasure of visiting him as well.

Overall, a wonderful experience!

“elephant orphanage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

it was so special to be with the little orphans when they come trooping in for their milk, fed by the trainers. The youngest was only 4 months old, rescued from a well after his mother and the rest of the family were chased away by herders. The orphans are cared for till they're 3 years old and then they're slowly introduced back to the wild in Tsavo National Park, if they're accepted by the wild herds there. A heart tucking experience. And a worthwhile cause to support.

“A Must if in Kenya”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

Dr Dame Daphne Sheldrick and her daughter Angela are the driving force behind this extraordinary elephant orphanage/ nursery. It would be a huge shame to miss out on what is a global model for conservation, Dr Daphne Sheldrick is acknowledged worldwide as a pioneer and authority on saving baby elephants, not only saving them but re-introducing them successfully back into the wild.
The visit is heart warming, emotional, uplifting and informative. Man's greed and the resultant poaching has left countless baby elephants orphaned and without DSWT these babies would never have stood a chance. Visit this special place, take your children, read Dr Daphne Sheldrick's book An African Love Story, and do not leave without fostering your own baby elephant. This place is literally life changing!
