“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Every time I visit Nairobi I make a trip to the orphanage. It is truly inspiring to see the dedication and love of the keepers and the Sheldricks for these orphaned elephants. The Trust is making a difference in the lives of animals and educating the world about the horrors of poaching and habitat destruction.

“David Sheldrick's elephants - Olifanten Weeshuis”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

It's okay to go here, but not very cheap.
The varetakers parade the elephants out, you can stand around the open space where they feed them, on 3 sides.
The problem is if it is busy, usually let too many people in, you can not see much. Also I have not seen any paying people feeding the elephants and they do advertise that ...
Good cause, badly carried out.

If you have a choice go to AFEW Giraffe Center.

Aardig als je olifanten wil zien op een afstandje.
Als het druk is kom je echt niet dichtbij.
Goede zaak dat het er is, niet zo' n beste touristische uitvoering vind ik.
Ga liever naar de Giraffes!

“See the baby Elephants!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

This is a must to visit, here they take in abandoned baby elephants, feed them, nurture them, nurse them back to health and ultimately return them to the wild & ensure that they are adopted by an appropriate family in an area close to where they were found.

“Home for orphaned elephants.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

I visited this centre not long after seeing a BBC documentary about the work carried out there. In fact, I recognised some of the keepers! They all seem really passionate about their work. The baby elephants are adorable and seem genuinely fond of the keepers, who play with them as well as feed and look after them. Some of the stories about how they were orphaned are sad, but it is great to think this place exists. It is a good place to visit with children.

you will be sad. the time spent with the orphaned elephants is amazing. Worth every moment. And the best thing is, if you want, you can adopt a little one!
