After reading nearly all the rave reviews like-"Nairobi`s best kept secret", "Alladdins cave", "More than 10 out of 10",i rushed to book this Guest house more than 2 months in advance payments! The initial booking took some delay in replies from their side but after that; Mary was spot on & replied to my queries promptly & most important to the point.
Their VIP cabs driver George was in hand at the airport to pick me up after a tiring sleepless journey from Mumbai. On my arrival, i found the guest house looked better than the one they display on this page!Alfred, the trainee had kept the room ready for me though i arrived a few hours earlier than the check in time.My non-A/C Sunshade room on the ground floor was immaculately clean & i could look out of my window with a view of green plants & trees all round. All the toilet items were there with clean towels which were to be changed on request along with bed linnen( once a week) This place has only 4 rooms, 2 on each floor with the common lounge, kitchen cum dining hall on the ground floor next to my room;the element of privacy is somewhat missing as one could over hear conversation in the adjacent lounge,kitchen-dining hall. They have a safe provide for the room which is very awkwardly placed close to the ground inside the cupboard.so one has to sit on haunches for quite sometime to work the safe open or close! I hope they re-position the safe.
They provide you with only B`fast which is filling. The usual continental/American with Kenyan fruits.I found the passion & Mangoe fruits sour a couple of times which spoiled my taste.Though they promise to provide early B`fast, i had once to go on empty stomach after waiting one hour more than the scheduled time of departure, inspite of being promised the previous evening. No apologies were offered on being informed on return-everything was to be taken in one`s stride! For other meals they had arrangements with restaurants close by--Anghiti & Royal Kitchen etc.I found Royal kitchen very prompt in service especially the delivery boy Washington, with reasonable priced good food.
Their fridge is stocked with beer & soft drinks only & they have the `Honors system` where one notes down in the book what one takes, the prices are very reasonable.Their arrangements with VIP cabs & Peter (Mob.no 0720877785) is good. I found Peter better having a small fleet of cars with prompt service, honesty & reliabilty.Another plus point with the Guest house is that they display the Tele. nos.of the various services on the board & one can use their phone to ring them up to place the order. But in coming calls to the House frequently go unanswered.
The Guest house operates with a lean staff. There is Mary, the all in all, who looks after the office work, kitchen provisions, cooking, room cleaning, linnen washing & attending to the gate opening bells during the day when the guard is asleep, after the night duty.Hence there is delay in opening of the gate on arrival from outside quite frequently.she has a trainee Alfred who is still picking up his duties. There is a guard also from a security agency. There is a skeleton of `FIrst aid` at this place or a doctor on call arrangements & no one on duty at night in case any customer needs any medical attention.Instructions are there with the guard to ring up Carla in case of any emergency.Being an elderly person, i found this a bit disquieting!
Carla the owner, is a long time resident of this country & knows its people & places well.I needed some source material on Kenya for a book i was planning to write on the age old Indian connection with Kenya,She gave me the contact of Mr. Akbar Hussain who was very helpful with the sources & a great host in his lovely home in the Diplomatic enclave.
I for one did not find it the Alladdins cave or a gem but If one is lucky to find some good travelers company, one can have a homely relaxed time in the green sorroundings & hard working staff!
Sun shade room on the ground floor, costly but worth it if you are lucky not to have some noisy ne...

We read with great pleasure your extensive review of our guesthouse. As a longer term resident, you certainly were able to experience all aspects of our place. I personally enjoyed your fascinating account of the Indian migrations through history, and look forward to reading your book. As to providing early breakfast outside the normal hours, you did agree we had set up cereals, tea, fruit in the fridge and preserves for you to take. Bread was on the counter. Therefore, I understood that you had not been 'on an empty stomach'. We always ensure there is breakfast available even if people leave very early in the morning - even through they are requested to help themselves in such cases. Small guest houses can not provide a 24 hour service like in hotels. I trust that this did not colour the rest of your stay. We highly appreciate your time and effort to post your review! Warm regards,
