“Truly a wonderful place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

The Miti Mingi is set in a beautiful garden, quiet and serenity at its best. A home away from home. With only 4 rooms, you are the staff's top priority. My friend and I spent our last two nights on our three week Kenya/Ethiopia trip at the Miti Mingi and we are so glad we did.

“A home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

We started our Kenya exploration here, and I'm really happy we did. Miti Mingi is the sort of place that makes you feel instantly comfortable, no matter how far you are from home. The guesthouse arranged a pickup for us from the airport (a very professional service by the way, would definitely recommend VIP Cabs too), had no problems checking in early in the morning, and even managed to receive a nice breakfast. Our hosts, Calystus and Mary, made us feel as if we came for a visit to a family friend, I wish we'd had a bit more time to spend chatting away. There's a lounge with comfy couches and books and you can also sit outside, on the patio, and just relax... Hakuna Matata.

The guesthouse is located quite close to the centre (though I must admit we always travelled by taxi so did not get a real feel for the city), is part of a protected compound so is super-safe, has a garden with lush vegetation, and has quite spacious rooms. Snacks & drinks on a sign-up basis is a nice touch and also contributes to the family- feel. As already mentioned, the staff is great - and even helped us arranging our safari.

All in all - definitely recommended!

“Heaven on Earth … but be careful when you book for heaven!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Located in an excellent place.. quiet.. safe.. the surroundings are magical!
Staff are very friendly and organized.. and the taxi drivers they deal with are the best.. they are organized trust worthy.

My only and biggest problem was that I booked for 7 days and my flight was way past the checkout time on the last day. So I informed them in advance, and they said that it’s OK. Suddenly on the day of the flight (the only day that I supposed to be resting in) they tell me that I have to leave the room, cuz it’s already been booked. I offered to pay half a day or even a full day but they refused.

They did charge me a full day for the first day even though I arrived like 8 hours before the check-in time for the 2nd day.. So keep this in mind as well.
I found myself stranded on my last day. This small detail almost ruined my entire stay.

Nevertheless… Would I recommend going to this place? Definitely YES!!

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We were delighted to host you. We always appreciate a guest’s opinion about his experience at our guesthouse. It is encouraging to note that generally you enjoyed your stay with us and you felt safe, cared for and your needs were met by our staff.
I am sad to note that in spite of our conversation regarding the check out time, you felt the need to put this on Tripadvisor. I understand your upset at the time, but I believe it unfair that you think we are fully responsible. I wish to state the conversation we had with you. You booked for 7 nights: arrival on 5th and departure on 11th September and requested an airport pickup at 1AM on the 5th September (the night of the 4th to the 5th). In your reservation you did not indicate that you wished to wait until the room would be vacated on the 5th (check out time is 10AM and rooms are vacant from 11Am). Therefore, we presume that a person wants the room from the time you arrive, unless otherwise indicated. Therefore, we took the 7 nights to mean from the night of the 4th to 5th.
On the day of your departure, Mary asked what time you would check out. You indicated 10 o’clock and she presumed that that was 10AM (normal time of check out at our guesthouse and almost all hotels), so she did not say anything, knowing she could clean the room on time before the next guest would check in (who was already at the guest house). When you had not vacated by 2PM, the misunderstanding about this came out. It turned out that you meant 10PM. We apologized for the misunderstanding, but pointed out that you would unfortunately need to vacate as the other guest was waiting to check in. We also said that if we had known that you wanted to stay until the night, we could have arranged for the longer stay when you reserved the room: you would either have paid 50% for occupancy until 5PM or full price if you wished to stay beyond that time. As you had never indicated on your reservation form or subsequent emails that you wished to check out at night, we did not suggest that at the time. We said you would be very welcome to stay and use the common areas until your departure. You argued that ‘if we arrive in the middle of the night, Miti Mingi should know that we will leave in the middle of the night’. I told you that that was an unfair expectation, as we do not know the plans of every guest other than the stay at Miti Mingi- and we certainly do not presume anything at all. Although we appreciated your gesture for extra payment for a stay until 10PM, we could not accept that, as the next guest had already booked for that night and had a right to the room from 11AM onwards. You did enjoy the room use until 4PM.
Lastly, I am slightly amazed that you find it strange that ‘you got charged for a full day on the first night when you arrived 8 hours before the second day’. I am sure you know that there is no accommodation in the world that will give you a free or discounted rate if you want a room in the middle of the night!
We take the comfort and happiness of our guests very seriously- from reservation to departure. We always give the full service the guest has requested and paid for. We trust that you appreciate that the guest has a responsibility in stating the requirements clearly when making the reservation. This will certainly avoid such misunderstandings. We look forward to hosting you again sometime in the future!

“A genuine oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

I've just returned after spending a week (7-14th September 2012) in Nairobi visiting my daughter. Nairobi can be a little overwhelming but I was immediately put at ease when I arrived and new immediately that this was an island of peace and quiet. The Sun Room was well appointed and everything worked as it should, from free wi-fi to hot showers. Calystus, the manager, couldn't have been more helpful it what is, in reality, a converted private residence now housing only guests. Free tea and coffee on tap meant that I could wander into the kitchen 24 hours and help myself. During my stay there were several other guests, also 'long' stayers, and we got to know each other and were able to offer informal advice, share stories and generally chat. I came and went at odd hours and a small bell to alert the ground-staff would have been helful but this wasn't a big deal in the scheme of things. Definitely gets my vote and I will be staying there on my next trip out. When you stay, take an early evening tea/beer/wine and watch the monkeys in the trees - superb!

Room Tip: Rooms with a garden view would be prefereable if you are going to stay any more than a few days.

“All the comforts of home. . . .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

The Miti Mingi is a great place to relax and breathe easy. The decor of the house is quite lovely and "Westernized". My mission's team stayed 2 nights there August 20th - 21st, 2012 and it was a welcomed addition to conclude our trip in Kenya. Although we arrived late to the Miti Mingi, Carla the owner, was there to greet us and when we rose up early the next two mornings she was there to prepare and arrange breakfast for the team as we left out the door. The rooms are quite large and comfortable beds, with mosquito netting around it. Flat screen T.V.s in each room. Fast Wi-fi connection speeds. Beautiful tiled bathrooms in each room with HOT showers. Located within a high end residential/business area. Privacy fencing surrounds the property grounds, with beautiful garden settings and sitting areas to relax outdoors.

I definitely will be returning to the Miti Mingi, when I am back in Nairobi.
