“Great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel is one of the better ones in Nairobi. The roads outside area bit thrashed and under construction, but once inside, it is like being back to normal. Everything seems modern and clean. The internet is fast and free! This is a home run for me and even though the Hilton is cheaper (during the time of my stay), the Internet is not free.

The food for room service leaves a little to be desired. Not bad.

Not as close to the airport as it looks on the map.

Rooms are good size and amenities are great. Perfect business hotel.

Don't get me wrong, it's a decent hotel once you're inside but the approach is worse than terrible. The driver told me they built the hotel and only later realised that the approach to the entrance from the main city would have to be on a muddy excuse of a road. I realise this is Africa but it was comical to see business executives mostly american and european being thrown about in the back of their cabs. The check in itself was smooth and the room comfortable. The hotel ticks all the boxes and you can expect a smooth stay with little or no hiccups. My bathroom had a problem with the shower which they fixed promptly when told and the pillow menu (standard in crown plaza's) is a good respite for people who sleep on their side. The personalised welcome message on the TV screen when you enter is also a good touch. The food was above average and the hotel is not far from the city centre. I hope they can fix the approach to the hotel.

And yes, they have a very friendly doorman who will tell you very cool stories if you find yourself waiting for a cab for a few minutes.

Also, while in Kenya - TUSKER Beer!

Smooth pickup from airport that we arranged before leaving Canada. Worth every penny of the 30 US we paid (especially after a long flight arriving at 3:30 am!) Spacious bathroom with soaker tub and separate shower. As priority club members we had access to lounge and lovely breakfast (great omelette station!) Still a lot of construction but this did not affect our stay.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2014

Stayed there mid-December. Enjoyed it very much. And had few things the hotel can do better. Let's look at them separately:

GREAT :
1. Staff - very helpful, very professional. In breakfast buffet area, Rashid makes some of the best omelettes I have eaten in any hotel. And Emma is extremely helful, and attentive. after just one day, she remembered what I wanted and brought my double-espresso right away.
2. Bed is great and comfortable. Daily cleaning team do a wonderful job in keeping rooms quite clean. Of course, after 5PM there is a turndown service as well.
3. It is quite safe with bomb searching guys for every car, and x-ray machine at the entrance
4. Room service - quite quick, and quite delicious food
5. One of the best hotel gyms, with many choices for cardio and weight training. Of course, it is not only the hotel gym, but also gym for locals for a fee.
6. Free wi-fi - best reception is in lobby
7. Front Desk - Very professional, friendly, accommodating
8. Wake-up Calls - If done by pushing OPERATOR button, you will get a wake up on time by automated sound, followed up by live person in five minutes. I thought this was a great touch.

Opportunities for improvement -

1. Cleanliness DETAILS - while overall the room is quite clean, by day 3 I could see dust on the table in the room. Maybe wiping dust down could help.
2. Cleanliness - Shower - Cleaning faucets and shower heads may be in order in many rooms, as the shower heads are not cleanest.
3. Safety - Overall there is IMPRESSION of looking for bombs, I have seen in cases where this is nothing but impression. In the mornings I was standing close to them while waiting for my partners to pick me up. I did see some guys walking with under-carriage mirrors, and they were NOT even looking down. So basically they walked half the way around the car without even looking down to the mirror....
4. Wi-Fi - not as strong in the rooms, I was getting 1-2 lines max in the room, vs. full bar in the lobby.

In conclusion, the hotel is very good. They are doing many things very well. However, little details prevent them from being EXCELLENT! I will be back, and already look forward to staying at Crowne Plaza.

Hotel is about 20 minutes from city and airport.
Very comfortable hotel. 3x main areas for eating buffet, a la Carte and bar area. all worth trying.
Site has free Wi-fi breakfast is extra but rooms very nice with tea making facilities.
Many large conference rooms so hosting meetings or events well catered for.2x weddings in the day while I stayed there.
Nothing in walking distance so taxi to go anywhere. (british embassy and council are close)
2x local shopping malls (15-20 mins) in car both have shops and varied places to eat.
Just about everyone speaks good english.
hotel security is good and staff are very good.
Nothing local for tourist Taxi needed to go anywhere.
Pool a little small but very pleasant. Gym is better equiped than most hotel gyms with spa etc.
more for busines than families but very good hotel everything worked well..

Room Tip: rooms facing rear where cars park can be a little noisy with car alarms being set and unset and cars...

Well done Crowne Plaza

I've stayed here several times [swear I have reviewed this before but can't find it].

This was the best stay ever - everything on time, functional and great service and no problem with the room. If you have ever stayed in Africa, you'll know that this is not a normal thing.

The buffet for breakfast and dinner could do with a bit of improvement, in respect to variety thought. And I would like to see a wider variety of TV channels - in English

The Exec Lounge is ok, with good service and a mini version of the buffet downstairs - great for a quick bite but not much variety - that's ok for me.

If you are a business traveller and want the basics, the CPN is more than adequate. The staff try hard but frankly the performance is inconsistent enough to drive one batty if you're a frequent guest; I see this more as sloppy management than a staff issue. The main restaurant is mediocre, from the menu to the service, but the Sikia restaurant service and food are both outstanding. The gym is very good, far above average for a chain hotel, though they are lacking things like steps, bosu etc that are available at the Serena gym (which is tiny, crowded and loud, fyi). The hotel car service is exorbitant. If you need to get around, it's worth your time to find a private driver. If yiu dont need the IHG points, there are better options.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the entrance are most protected from street noise. The pool facing rooms can get no...
