“Very good hotel when you come for a UN meeting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

This hotel is the nearest to the UN Gigiri Compound and many visitors with a tight budjet stay there. Besides proximity to the UN, another advantage is the nearby US Embassy, which is guarded by Kenyan military, police and private security personnel what makes this borough the safest place in Nairobi The "Village Market", with a supermarket and a dosen of restaurants, all heavily guarded again is within 10 minutes walking. I admit, that the rooms are small and require renovation, the breakfast is boring, the restaurant could do better with a new chef, but all this is compensated by meticulous cleaning and a very friendly staff, allways willing to help you. When you come for a longer time, rent an appartement whith a kitchennette, to serve you as a base for travelling inside the country. This Hotel I can recommend for my potential readers.

Room Tip: all rooms are pretty much the same

The only reason to choose this hotel would be its close proximity to the UN complex. I felt like staying in a dormitory, very basic rooms with no effort whatsoever to make you feel comfortable - curtains falling down, cold floors, very noisy. Cleanliness was OK, but could not make up for the terrible atmosphere. The breakfast was a joke - I had to wait half an hour for basic eggs, bacon and coffee. The only plus is the very friendly staff. It is the first time I changed hotel, but this one just did not do it for me.

Room Tip: Look for another hotel.....

Stayed at China Gardens (hotel side) first week in November 2011. I was in Nairobi for a meeting at the UN Centre, Gigiri.

Very convenient and right across the the UN complex. It takes about 2 minutes to walk to the main gate. It is not a 5star hotel BUT, the bed was comfortable, room was clean, water VERY hot and staff were friendly and accommodating. I didn't have any problems with mosquitoes. Bfast was included in my room rate which was much lower that the relatively expensive Hilton and other hotels downtown. Bfast was adequate - eggs, ham, coffee, tea, fruit. Internet was free and speed reasonable.

I left the conference room late every night - 10pm, 11pm - ALONE - and so far, never had any problems regarding my safety.

Will stay again!

Room Tip: If a lone lady traveler, ask for a room near reception. If possible, get an apartment instead - it...
