“I always book when working or Flying Back to UK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2011

I always stay at this hotel prior to travelling to UK or a break to Nairobi.. The rooms are spacious and kept very clean. The staff are always friendly and always willing to help. There is a restaurant that is open 24/7 with a good variety on the menu. The hotel is close to JKIA.

I had five of my guests stay at Mvuli Hotel for a week. The service received was exceptional, as they had transport from Mvuli, to our offices on the other side of town well handled, food quality excellent. They never did have any incidents with the staff who were always courteous and professional. They unreservedly recommended the hotel. We will be hosting more guests of ours at the hotel.

Room Tip: Book early. Befriend management.

We stayed here because it was recommended by a local friend. We made a mistake. It is loud, very very loud, being right on Langata Road, If you want a good night's sleep don't stay here, we were surrounded by garbage and the appalling conditions of Western Nairobi. However it was fun to people watch and the gate guard is priceless! The rooms are tiny, and the shower was a shower head coming out of the wall, spraying the whole room, drenching your clothes and the curtain was a flimsy cloth that flapped around and made you feel like you were taking a shower in a rain coat! On top of all this I was very very ill from their food. This hotel is typical of African standards, but if it wants to compete for western business, it needs to raise its standards. No manner of friendliness helps when you are throwing up on a plane all the way to europe!

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and we apologize for your bad experience. We're in the process of double glazing and upgrading our rooms and this should solve the issue you had with noise.

On the food issue, we appreciate the feedback, kindly send me your details so I can follow up with other guests that had food on the same day. The reason I ask for this is all our food is prepared fresh and we have never had a complaint on this and we would like to rectify any problems that might have arisen when you stayed with us.

Thank you very much.

i was NOT happy with Mvuli. first of all, they robbed me in broad day light! i paid a certain amount of money but had to go out without the receipt.on my return, the receptionist had recorder (alot) less that what i had given her! and management sided with her, no apologies, no allocating blame for the receptionist's not counting the money once i handed it to her! just "we are sorry for your loss but cant make it up to you.
Despite that, the staff were not friendly, from the cleaners to the waiters in the restaurant! i did NOT feel at home or safe. the neighbourhood was dirty, and i wondered if i could be robbed in the hotel, no way i'm i going out there for a walk! i wouldnt recommend it to anyone!

I usually follow the saying that if one doesn't have anything good to say one should not say anything. However, this hotel is an exception because I think people should know that it is located next to a Mosque where men think that it is ok to sing loudly all night long outside, for everyone to hear. So, beware.

The hotel is a reasonably clean place. However, the rooms are tiny--only two double bed fit in and there was barely any place to walk around them. Also, the beds had no nets and no mosquito repellent was offered for the room. Mosquitoes were hovering about and biting us all night. After that night I was bit all over. Then, around 3 am, the singing started. And it continued for the next 30 minutes. I layed in bed in quiet fury, unable to sleep or do anything to make the singing stop, thinking about the 20 hour flight we had the next day. After it stopped as suddenly as it started I barely managed to fall asleep again when the singing started again at around 4 am! And again it continued for about 30 minutes. Then, at around 5 am it started again. What a horror!

When we checked in I specifically requested a quiet room and was given this room because it faced the back of the hotel and away from the main street. No one said anything about the singing. After this horrible experience of having to listen to it all night I am very thankful that in New York it must be banned since we never hear any singing although we have a few mosques. I wasn't even aware that I had to worry about it before that fateful night at Mvuli.

Although the hotel is located close to the airport and was reasonably priced I barely got any sleep at all and was exhausted in the morning. Breakfast was uneatable. We ended up eating at the airport.

I apologise to you and your family for the unpleasant experience you had during your stay at Mvuli House.
Unfortunately your visit coincided with the Holy Month of Ramadhan, hence the multiple calls to prayer at dawn. This is however being resolved by The National Environment Management Authority which has issued and is in the process of implementing Noise Regulations which will curb disturbance.

Hand in hand with that, the Hotel is in the process of installing double glazed glass on the room windows which will eliminate noise completely.

We are sorry for making your visit unbearable, and invite you to give us a chance next time you're in Nairobi. We will give you a chance to change your opinion about Mvuli House, by giving you one complementary room night, next time you visit.

Thank you for the review.
