“Lost some of its character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

Whilst still being a lovely hotel the re fit and modernisation has taken away some of the character of the original hotel. We stayed in the old hotel years ago where you got a much greater feel of the history of the place whilst still enjoying modern facilities. It's all a bit too swish and business orientated now. Building work noise by the pool was bad. Good hotel but not special enough to pay the extra and return.

“Doesn't deliver at this price range”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

This is a fine hotel, though not worth the prices they charge. And they charge for everything. Service is uneven. Some staff go the extra distance while others seem bored. Service by the pool is particularly easy going. The breakfast buffet - again not cheap - is served until 1000 though it seems staff stop replenishing things about 0900. We had to ask three times for a glass. Overall, for a hotel charging $300+ a night, it falls short of the mark. There is nothing wrong here, but I didn't get the impression that they were trying all that hard.

“Ambience and excellent food and service go hand in hand here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

I truly enjoyed my recent stay at the Norfolk where the staff (from the chefs to the servers) goes out of its' way to provide you with a memorable dining experience. Whether sampling Kenyan favorites or enjoying Western style fare, I found all of my choices done to perfection. And, the traditionally colonial decor makes this an all-around perfect choice to get the feel of old-time Kenya brought into the 21st century.

“A fine, albeit expensive, place to eat in Nairobi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013 via mobile

The Delamere Terrace, like most of the Norfolk has been recently renovated. The food has gone up several notches as have the prices. There is a wide variety of cuisines - safe options include the lamb chops; the Arabic Mezzah makes a good starter. Puddings also good and generally food is quite imaginative. Wine list good, with a rarity for East Africa, a good Alsace Riesling. Service good as you would expect from a hotel of its standing and pedigree. You will pay for the food and the historical setting, but it's worth it.
