“good food but SLOW service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

This was my first time to revisit the Lord Delamare Terrace which before it was a Fairmont had been a favourite place to have supper. Fairmont have truned what had a specifically Nairobi place into something you might find in many other parts of the World. That is not to say it isn't very smart which it is; its just "international" with all that that implies.
Everyone was pleased with what they chose but we had to wait a long time to get it; well beyond the norms for freshly prepared food and more like waiting for it to defrost !

“Grand Hotel Of Colonial Nairobi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

Fantastic hotel. The landmark of Nairobi. Enjoy lunches here and dinners. Excellent Swiss chef on staff. Grand entry with old colonial charm. Great gardens and pool. A little expensive but a real fantastic environment. The rooms are really exceptional. Great for conferences also with several rooms available for meetings.

“elegance and taste”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

The fine dining restaurant in the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel is a real treat. The ambience was elegant, service first rate and the food delicious. Unexpected in the heart of Nairobi

“On the terrace ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

I do not like the renovation of the old terrace. I did like my tuna sandwich and the fancy place setting with china and silver. I was also very happy that my well heeled friends paid the $12 for the tuna sandwich.

As others have said this is an institution. It is a throw back to another era. That is its main attraction however the renovation erased much of the conection with the past. Now I am unsure what the role of this place will be. If you have lots of money and can afford to stay here, the dining will fit right in. It is excellent food, well presented, and well prepared. If you are not staying at the hotel and visiting Nairobi, do come and see the place. Afternoon tea or a light lunch is what I reccomend. Otherwise the sticker shock for a full dinner will out balance the amenities.
