First make the choice of why you're in the Maasai Mara; to spend your time in the camp or maximize your time out seeing the incredible wildlife. If you're there to see the wildlife, then choose a tented camp like Ol-moran that is clean, safe, conveniently-located and relatively inexpensive. It provides a good place to rest up for the next day's exhilarating journey. My wife and I found the staff to be just what was needed after a day on the road. The tents are clean and the food adequate. Then on to the real attraction!

We booked a safari with Visit Mount Kenya Tours, and we should have a private safari with 4-5 star accomodation the whole trip.
Ol Moran definatly is not in that range, staff not polite, food was really not what we were used too, very little choise, not really enjoyable. When they were cleaning the tables after diner in the place that is the restaurant, some of the spoons fell on the floor. Without cleaning them they were put back in the drawers for the next diner......
After one night in this camp we refused to stay there longer, on the iternerary of Visit Mount Kenya Tours we should stay in Mara Sopa Lodge for 2 days but because there were no rooms available (as the travelcompany told us) we had to go back to Ol Moran.
We paid the room in Sopa ourselves (of course there were rooms but they were not as cheap as Ol Moran) because we really didn't like te place at all.

The tents are basic but comfortable, with a variety of bed arrangements (double, double and twin, 2 doubles and twin, etc.). While the tents are spacious, the arrangement of beds in our tent meant you had to squeeze between beds to reach the (ensuite) bathroom (which was also quite large). The sleeping and bath rooms were clean, but the water situation was not the best. Our tent did not always have running water, and it never had warm water, which, after a drive in the park, is most welcomed.

The food was excellent and served buffet style. Great local dishes. The staff were very helpful, but you had to speak up if you needed something. I had to ask about our water situation several times.

The location is an excellent base for exploring the Masai Mara--it is just minutes away from the gate into the park.

The tents are spacious and clean, the staff is very nice and the location is quite good as it is only 10 min away from Masai Mara entry gate.
There are only 20 tents or so which makes this camp very quiet and peaceful.
I highly recommend it.
