“Worth a visit for the garden”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

When the food is good it's very good, however has on occasion disappointed. The service from the floor teams is generally very good, although the duty managers often appear overwhelmed. The setting however is stunning

“Beautiful outdoor dining, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

What a lovely place for lunch! We visited Tamambo after seeing the elephant orphanage and I couldn't imagine a more satisfying meal. Sunny and beautiful outdoor dining, and neat historical buildings to visit afterwards as a bonus.

My friends and I were starving when we arrived and I started off with a banana daquiri that was not only beautiful (decorated with a cool twisty straw and a little piece of banana) but deliciously frothy. It had a definite kick. For lunch, my friends all ordered the burgers, which looked amazing and were "fully loaded" with cheese and goodies, but I couldn't resist the Zanzibari fish, which was delicious! It came with really yummy creamed spinach as well.

A friend also got the "nachos" for a starter, which turned out to be a great dish! Yummy take on Mexican food with a Kenyan twist because the chips are cassava and banana chips instead of corn. Topped with yummy guacamole and sour cream. The tortillas were also authentic! (I come from California so my opinion on Mexican dishes should count for something).

First time in Kenya and what an introduction. The food is exceptional and the service a perfect balance between attentive and The Burgers are tender and tasty and the trout perfectly prepared and presented. It was so good we went back on our return.

“Lovely setting which is consistently let down by poor service and below average food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

(this is the review which Tripadvisor has incorrectly posted against Tamambo Tapas Bar despite 4 requests from me to change it - so I have re-posted it in the right place)

Have eaten here several times over the last year or two.

During the day the garden is lovely, lots of space to move around and service is pretty good.

In the evening however, the trainee waiting staff and kitchen staff are let out to practise. We have had cold food, wrong orders, bread served after the main course, cheesecake which has clearly gone off, flat beer (reused from a previous drinker), all of which takes far too long to arrive. Need I go on?

In addition to the poor food, service is even worse. That's not to say there are not enough staff, rather there are too many who congregate around the door asking each other what to do, and most of whom do not know what they are supposed to do. The restaurant would be well advised to poach some of the great waiters from Talisman who set the standard in Kenya.

What a shame for one of the most pleasant surroundings to eat in Nairobi
