“Basic Italian meal, but good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

Visited the restaurant a couple of times during our visit to Nairobi. Meals were good and basic Italian. Good wine but a little overpriced. Excellent service. Sitting on the balcony is nice.

“Major drawback”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

It's the staff I feel sorry for at this restaurant. Having offered my credit card to pay the bill I was informed that the restaurant does not take cards; something that I had not been told earlier. When it was pointed out that this could lead to an embarrassing situation given that this place is not cheap, the staff admitted that this often was the case. They told stories of having to go with customers to cash machines. Apparently the owner a) does not mind causing severe inconvenience to customers and b) putting his staff in a difficult position as they get it in the neck when it's not at all their fault. It was pointed out that on the fly leaf of the menu there is a statement in small print at the bottom about their non-acceptance of cards, but who reads the fly leaf of a menu - you turn to the food. I suggest that until the owner puts customer convenience first this place should be avoided.

“Good Italian Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

I went to Trattoria on a journey to find Italian food. After living in Kenya for several months now, I've found that it's very difficult to find good non-African food. Trattoria certainly fits this mold. The restaurant is located near the governmental buildings. The building itself has a nice atmosphere. I sat outside but enjoyed some nice privacy as there are bushes surrounding the patio. The service is pretty good and the waiters are somewhat more attentive than your average Kenyan restaurant. The food was very good, I got spaghetti bolognese and it hit the spot. The meal also came with bread and breadsticks with butter. The menu is a bit expensive. However, whenever you want something uncommon in Nairobi it always is. My meal plus a bottle of water was 1100 Ksh. Although, when you compare it to prices back at home in the US, it's still cheaper. In summation, Trattoria was a very good find. I'll certainly be returning in the future.

“Best Italian in Nairobi - hands down”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

We have been enjoying the excellence of Trattoria for almost 30 years and it is a pleasure to commend it on Trip Advisor. The staff are excellent, the management attentive and we are simply never disappointed. No matter what we order - pasta, pizza, seafood, chicken, beef... always good, every time. Some won't like being in the middle of the city at night. We enjoy sitting on the terrace and watching the activity.
