I had been to Jiangsu several years back and remember enjoying the experience and the food. The restaurant décor has not changed much from several years ago. The restaurant is bigger with additional cubicle dinning space to the left of the entrance. The balcony seating no longer appears to be in use.
The restaurant has an extensive menu. My dinning partner ordered the pumpkin soup and was informed by the waiter that it would take too long to prepare. On enquiry as to the expected time frame for arrival of the soup the waiter said that it would take 30 minutes. My dinning partner was fine with the 30 minute wait but the waiter insisted that it would take too long and refused to take the order. On enquiring why it would take too long the waiter was unable to respond.
My dinning partner ended up with the mushroom soup which he enjoyed. It was “very moushroumy”. I ordered the mixed vegetables and the sizzling prawns. The mixed vegetables were done just right. The sizzling prawns arrived covered with a metal bowl that the waiter immediately opened leading to hot sauce from the cast iron plate landing on our clothes, skin, and in my eye! Despite the sizzle spray the prawns were good.
After dinner we tried to order coffee and another drink but were informed that the restaurant closes at 10:30pm and they could not take any orders. This was at 10:20pm. No one mentioned the closing time when we walked in at 9:00pm. It took another 25 minutes for our bill to arrive.
