“It is One of the Best Hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2011

I am a Kenyan living in the US and recently returned home to visit family and friends and stayed at the Tribe Hotel with my wife for five days.
What an amazingly great experience: friendly staff, concierge service, food, very clean/well kept interior/appointments.
The concierge has been very helpful in tracing our lost luggage(4) by Virgin Atlantic; they were also very resourceful in arranging/coordinating outside events of choice.
We would recommend this hotel to our friends/family who dont mind chic accommodation without inclusion of breakfast

“Stunning Boutique Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2010

Tribe is a trend-setter, boutique hotel, in the heart of Africa, Nairobi, Kenya.

Stunning architecture, chic interior and sexy bedrooms! Great roof top Moroccan themed shisha bar, stunning poolside restaurant, where you can dine in the pool, or at the raised table surrounded by flames!

I only experienced 1 minor glitch, a cut to the cold water supply during the early morning, which was promptly resolved.

Do you yourself a favour, when in Nairobi, stay at Tribe!

“Great location, would stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2010

Overall I found the hotel a solid choice. As previous reviewers mentioned, it is connected to the village marketplace, great for shopping, food, and other amenities. It is also very close to various embassies and US missions, making it perfect for those in need of easy access to those locations..

The staff were friendly and service was fine and speedy - the hotel did not appear booked while I was there, probably making it easier to obtain service, especially at the restaurant.

The restaurant had excellent vegetarian options, and a great salad bar. This made the trip much more enjoyable since I had feared the normal 'junk salad' options that so many restaurants and hotels offer. The salad bar had 12-15 different options each day, and the variety changed from day to day, making it a great choice for vegetarians/vegans.

The rooms were a bit quirky, as other posters mentioned. It appears that they have now put doors on the bathrooms, allowing for more of a 'separation' between the two.

The workout room was well equipped with two treadmills, weight machines, and a stepper. Open all day, it was easy to make time for a workout when needed.

I found the bed comfortable. The pillows were a bit too big. The hotel staff didn't seem to have smaller ones available. One size fits all, it seems.

There are ample places in/around the hotel to meet with small groups, sit in chairs and read, and relax.

For our particular room rate ($200, government rate, king bed), they provided two or more bottles of water a day in the room. This is great to help recover from a long flight, and stay hydrated. There was also a small refrigerator in the room. No ironing board, but they seem to offer speedy pressing if needed.

The spa was decent - open and available for massage or other wellness treatments. Looks like they are still in the process of making it fully ready though. It need a bit more 'polishing' to make it feel the complete experience.

The internet service was good, allowed me to get to the necessary services I needed. My wireless phone service in the hotel was adequate and typical for Kenya.

My issues:
1. The shower floors were not slightly sloped toward the drain during tiling. This means you will be standing in a bit of water during your shower. Bring sandals.
2. I didn't have adequate hot water during my stay - best I could coax was lukewarm, no matter how long the shower was on. A co-worker had no problem (he was on a different floor), so it may have been my hot water feeder.
3. The A/C didn't work reliably during my stay. It wasn't the 'hot time' of year there, so the room didn't bake, but the A/C would reliably turn itself off after some arbitrary period of time, and especially when the hotel suffered blackouts (multiple times during the stay). When the room/hotel loses power, the A/C turns off, and you have to manually turn it on. So be prepared to get up and reset it throughout the night.
4. As other posters mentioned, there is no drawer space. Plan on living out of your suitcase for most of your clothes, unless they can hang up, or fit into the one small drawer in the 'closet' where the safe is. It seems that there was ample space to fit drawers under the TV. Must have been an oversight. If you're staying for any length of time, this is kind of annoying, but not a huge issue.
5. They are building more rooms in the hotel, so perhaps they will be addressing many of these issues in the new wings.

“Wonderful - Exceeds Expectation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2010

We have just come back from a trip to Niarobi Kenya, and I can highly reccomend this hotel for a few reasons, the rooms are excellent, clean comfortable and spacious, the service in this hotel is exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We also spent quiet a bit of time eating at the restuarant in the hotel, and the food was really good.

“We completely enjoyed our 3 day stay at the unique Tribe Hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2010

This hotel is incredible. The staff in the restaurant, at reception and in the business center were all absolutely wonderful. The security staff were very courteous and professional and made us feel safe. Food was great and the location is just a few feet away from an upscale and fun shopping mall called The Village Market. The hotel serves a Sunday brunch and barbecue with a live band playing softly beside the pool which was delightful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Free high speed internet was a bonus. A great place to stay !
