“Expensive but good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

Decent business hotel. Interesting architecture gives it character, rooms are spacious and clean, staff attentive and willing to help (if not always really being able to...). Gym is also clean and has the basics. The mall nearby is a nice bonus, as they have a lot of good restaurants. Breakfast is wide and varied.

Beautiful hotel but lacking in service. Breakfast is a 'battle' having to ask for basic things such as salt and pepper, sweeteners, etc. Used crockery is not removed and dishes pile up on your table while you complete your courses. Arranged shuttle service failed to collect me leaving me stranded! Aircon in room faulty for two nights - stopped working in the middle of the night. Apologies and friendly smiles are forthcoming but this doesn't aleviate the lack of service experienced. This is a very expensive hotel and one would expect customer satisfaction and focus is their prime concern. A real pity! Back to the Sarova Stanley for me on my next business visit!

Room Tip: Get a room with a proven aircon track record!

The Tribe Hotel is a masterful piece of architecture with lovely nooks and crannies. The staff are wonderfully courteous and smiling. However, for a supposed 5 star hotel, the service is well below par. One shouldn't have to ask for basics such as salt and pepper or sweetners at breakfast. The breakfast service is quite substandard when one considers one has to sit and wait for approximately 10 minutes before one is offered a customary cup of coffee or tea. As one finishes a breakfast course, the plates pile up on the table and are only removed as one leaves the dining area. Arranged transport in their fancy Landrovers failed to materialise leaving me stranded. Of course profuse apologies are forthcoming but that doesn't solve the problem of lack of service. My aircon packed up two nights in a row leaving me in a stuffy, humid and hot room - at 2.00am. One would have thought that their technicians would have sorted this out the first night!
As I said, although apologies were forthcoming, the damage had been done. I will be returning to my usual stay in Nairobi, the Sarova Stanley, where attention to the client is always utmost in their daily practice.

Room Tip: Choose a room one with a proven aircon technical record! (Tongue in cheek!)

The Tribe is a very convenient, if expensive, hotel for those of us who attend meetings of the UN Environment Programme.
The staff are helpful and friendly, the food is good and the pool area is lovely. The indoor decor is interesting even if it is dominated by West African artifacts and owes little to Kenya's growing art scene.
However, this hotel is aimed at business travellers spending a few nights. It is much too far from the airports for those overnighting before heading off on safari. Thus the fact that the wifi is unreliable and the lights in the rooms dim in the extreme are real irritants. Even in the public areas the lights are inadequate. The lighting mood is suitable for the romantic couples I have never seen in several years of visiting. For those of us trying to negotiate with people from around the world it would be nice to be able to see faces clearly. Given the room rate there is no excuse for not having some areas that meet our needs - other than the area by the toilets just outside the dining room!

Great modern hotel next to a nice market and loads of possibilities to eat and shop!
Very good spa and if you ask a Thai massage you get a Thai woman to do it! Excellent drivers and cars and even the Safaris they offer are amazing, had the luck to see 300+ elephants and other animals a few feet away! Brilliant !

The tribe is a very pleasant, modern and comfortable hotel. Although not cheap, it is worth the stay. very close to the village market and to the United Nations, for those who need to go and work there, it is definitely a place to recommend.
