We spent 2 nights at Makena's Hills followed by 1 at the Mukutan Retreat, with Sveva Gallmann, the owner's daughter.
The two lodges make an excellent pair. Makena has a majestic view over the bush and the Rift Valley; Mukutan is more intimate, nestled at the end of a steep and heavily wooded valley.
The quality of the food and service was outstanding. The menu is based on Italian cuisine, to match Kuki Gallmann's background.
The accommodation is beautiful: large, separate huts each with an open fire that crackles as you go to sleep.
There is no pool (although there is a plan for plunge pools for each room) but there is a natural hot spring in the valley below. It takes around 15 minutes via an amazing jungle walk.
