“Simple and very good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

I hesitate to give this 5 stars only as it is such a jem I want to advertise it too much and then they will always be booked up. Very simple accommodation but very comfortable, lovely surroundings, very good staff and most of all very good value in a city where hotels are SO over priced. oh and very friendly dogs!

Room Tip: Its a bit unclear on the website which rooms are shared bathrooms and which have there own so if you...

We stayed here twice recently and we thought it was a wonderful place out the noise and hectic Nairobi city. Very comfortable tents with ensuite and magnificent gardens, a little Gem in a crazy city.u

Room Tip: If you want a double bed make sure you ask some tents had only singles

We arrived late to the eco camp after a long flight. we had tried to arrange a cab through the camp but without receiving confirmation when requested we arranged alternative transport. on arrival we were told that they had arranged the cab and as we did not use it we may be charged.

In the morning we spoke with the recepetion and explained that we had received no confirmation. After speaking with the manager they agreed to our faces that we would not be charged. However on arrival back in the UK I discovered that the money had been taken out of my account.

When challenged about our conversation they ignnored it and said that they had sent confirmation which I had never received.

Also for $100 a room it is pretty shabby and you are right on top of the next tent which in oue case was full of South Africans up drinking and chatting until 2am.

We would definitely not recommend you stay here!

This was my second stay at Wildebeest Eco Camp, but my first at their new location. The grounds are stunning and the dorm beds were very comfortable and kept clean. Its a shame there is no self catering services provided as thats really the only place where the camp falls down. The food in the restaurant is adequate but expensive. You are best off shopping at the local Naukromat or going at the local eatery just on the main road which works out cheaper even when you include the boda boda charges to and from the camp.

The second year I stayed at the Wildebeest Eco Camp. I just love this place as it is the perfect environment to relax. The large garden is very beautiful. You can enjoy many species of birds.

Wildebeest has accommodation for every budget. Prices are low compared to other places in Nairobi. The amenities are great and are simply spotless. The quality of the beds is well above average. I am sure you will sleep very well here.

The food is tasty. The downside is that there are not many 'healthy' choices.

The people are friendly and helpful. They can help you arranging tours to Masai Mara and other parks in Kenya.

We stayed 3 nights upon arriving in Nairobi. We stayed in the Deluxe Tents which were lovely with beautiful grounds and comfortable beds, furniture and bathrooms. The envirobment is peaceful but a bit removed from the city center. BUT the breakfast that came with the room was meager and often cold...one had to pay for a second cup of coffee or any extras. We had no shampoo or soap and there was no daily maid service in the "room." We asked for a phonecall to book a shuttle and we would have been charged a significant amount to make a single call. The trips on offer were also expensive. A few of the staff were rude and not helpful although others were very friendly. If one stays in one of the the lower cost options, this is a good value but for a deluxe accommodation, it was not worth the value.

Room Tip: Book your own transportation with fellow travellers.

We stayed here for 3 nights and was thoroughly impressed with the accommodation and the grounds. It's beautifully maintained and has a very romantic feel on an evening with the lanterns lining the pathways. The food was lovely and good value. Considering the toilets and showers are communal they were always clean and there were enough cubicles that we never had to wait for a shower.

Unfortunately on our last evening we had a problem with a coach booking we had made with them. When we asked them to make the booking they quoted us a booking fee, however when we went to pay they insisted it was twice what they'd initially said. Had we have known this we would have found another way of booking our coach trip back to mombasa. There attempt to rectify the situation was to inform us they had made a mistake but that we would still have to pay double what we'd expected. It took a good 30 minutes of heated debate about customer service until they finally accepted that we should only be charged what we were told we would be. Although we got the outcome we wanted it sadly took the edge off the amazing experience we'd had here up to this point. They clearly don't abide by the saying, 'the customer is always right'.

Overall, it is great value and we would recommend a stay here but there is clear room for improvement with regards to customer service.
