“Nice inexpensive option for families (Gezira Garden)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

I went for Gezira Garden (the owners have 2 hotels, the 'Garden' is what they call the bigger one with the swimming pool) because we have 3 small children, and I needed the convenience of an apartment rather than being split up in separate rooms.
Our apartment was 2 bedrooms with a balcony off one looking over the courtyard, a reasonably sized main room (with now redundant kitchen), doors/Juliet balcony over the rear garden and out toward the fields, and a small bathroom. It was on the first floor - we saw that the ground floor rooms had had the kitchen removed making them more spacious still. I assume this is a work in progress.
The bathroom was cramped and shabby and the shower connection leaked which was annoying, but overall it was pretty good for the price - about 60 euros a night, and the staff were really nice.
The hotel was very conveniently located on the West Bank and it had lots of different areas for eating / drinking / sitting / swimming etc. (pool was freezing in April though). When the kids were in bed we were able to sit down in the garden right below the room and have drinks/dinner which was served from the rooftop restaurant. Service was pretty good.
Luxor does have lots of hotel options, including some very 'resorty' places which could be anywhere in the world and just aren't our sort of thing. We preferred the laid-back feel of this place and enjoyed the splash of greenery within.
I would stay there again but I would ask for a room/apartment which has been recently refurbished.

The Gezira Gardens hotel on Luxor's west bank is, and always has been, a real sweet place to stay. It is not your normal 5-star but it has so much charm and such a cozy, Bedouin atmosphere, that I keep returning to it time and time again. One of the best things about this hotel is its location -- on the quiet west bank of the Nile in Luxor. The east bank, where all of the shopping, etc, is, is a madhouse for a tourist as people are constantly trying to get you to buy things. The people on the west bank are so much more relaxed, friendly, and so truly Egyptian in attitude that you feel completely comfortable and relaxed.

Room Tip: downstairs rooms in the summer are cooler, upstairs rooms in the winter have nice views.

The hotel has an amazing restaurant and a great pool. I would definitely stay again at this hotel but i should point out that one night they had a belly dance Party in the roof terrace and the noise kept us awake until they finished at 12. That is REALLY LATE in Egypt, considering that you have to wake up at about 6am to avoid the heat and the crowds of tourists at the sites. Our room was really nice and it had a great balcony overlooking the pool area- i think it was the 224. If you are a light sleeper, you should call the hotel in advance after you've made your reservation and mention " their occasional" party- im sure they would put you in a room away from the noise. They were super nice and helpful. The pool is definitely great, the breakfast was the best we had in Egypt, the location is very good- you can walk to the ferry to cross to the east bank. I do recommend staying at the west bank which is a lot more relaxed and gives you a real feel of the tranquil traditional Luxor life. Its also closer to most of the places you would want to visit. Only Luxor temple and Karnak temple are on the east side and you can walk to Luxor's and take a taxi for like 10 egyptian pounds to Karnak's once you are on the other side. For the rest of the sites you would need a taxi for the morning- or the whole day, depending on how many you can do in one lot- or book excursions. If its not very hot, you could cycle to a few places but we went there in May and the heat after 10 am kills you.

Never stayed at this hotel but I have eaten at the restaurant just across the way (also called el gezeira but not garden) but have been to the Christmas Eve party at the el gezeira gardens. The food is excellent and really reasonably priced. It's authentic and tasty and always served with a smile, I really can recommend this place and always come back to it when I am in Luxor.

We stayed in El Gezira Gardens hotel (so not El Gezira, but they are close to each other on the Westbank) for only one night. The room was lovely, with some nice oriental touches *lamps, window screens). The layout of the hotel is beautiful and in the morning you hear lots and lots of birds. The restaurant was excellent, the people that work here very nice.
In short, we had a great stay and will stay there again next time we visit Luxor!

Used this hotel when I stayed at a local flat daily. I paid 15le for the day and trust me this is the best pool on the west bank !!!

Great pool, great cheap food, nice staff especially Saied and Ali.

Always had a smile on their faces and sold ice cold beers for only 10le.

Got talking to a couple of Brits that moved out there and they use the pool daily.

Try it !!!

My wife & I spent a few days at El Gezira Hotel. The family room was spacious, clean & very comfortable. We loved the location 1 minutes walk to the river. The rooftop restaurant had superb food, we really enjoyed our breakfasts also. This Hotel gave us a feeling of being close to the traditional Egytpian people & culture. The staff were very friendly & helpful. Marmoud organised tours & sunrise hot air ballooning with precision. We enjoyed the swimming pool, the free internet and the obvious care our hotel staff showed us & we would love to return to stay there again
