“OK for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2011

Hotel is OK - but could be better with a few improvements. We got a suite room with balcony overlooking Nile. 1 big Kind bed which 3 of us slept in and a pull out couch out in the lounge area. Got a good sleep because it was very quiet. Sheets were clean but room had musty smell. Newish hotel but decorations outdated and of poor quality which is a shame given its location and from the outside it looks like a nice hotel. Big rooms but not clean. Maybe because there were so few guests during our stay - or maybe from the desert dust but our room was so dusty that just walking across the room the undersides of our feet would be brown! No slippers provided so had to wear our shoes inside. Dust over everything. Shower good and nice hot water. Pool right by Nile but water looked a bit cloudy compared to the pools in hotels next door. Service was good however, and front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Hotel could be better given it's good location but when we were there it just felt like a "white elephant" and a bit neglected. OK for the money but nothing special.

We only stayed in this hotel for 3 nights after a Nile cruise. The rooms were large and clean with decent views over the Nile. The pool was immaculate but the umbrellas were immovable resulting in a sun burn if you were not careful. Because our stay was not long after the revolution the hotel was nigh on empty but the meals (buffet) were good with a variety and were hot. One evening there was only the six of us and one other couple so it was al-a-carte with excellent choices and well cooked food.
We had no problems going out at night and all the Egyptians were very welcoming.

I would like to thank all the staff in the Lotus Hotel for their kindness, warmth ,smiles and professionalism during my recent stay. This Hotel was spotless. The Reception staff
where smiling and helpful.

The reason I chose this hotel was the location of its pool and I was so glad I did.
There is nothing as nice sitting on a lounger beside the River Nile, and being able to stand on the steps and let the water run over your feet. The pool staff where excellent.

I liked my room ,which was cleaned every day to high standard and I got the lovely towel arrangement which is nice to come back and find at the end of the day. The bed was comfortable and the pillow suited me fine ( it is a high pillow). The Balcony is small
but nice just to sit on and watch the Nile go by.

Breakfast, I didnt go hungry and was able to have a different breakfast each day by choosing a different dish.

Over all I had a wonderful holiday in Luxor and was very happy to be back there.
It was nice to see is how proud the local people are of their country and how more relaxed they are. They did ask me to tell tourists that Luxor is open again.
I look for to my next visit to the Lotus Hotel.
I would check to see if the building has started beside it before going.

Stayed for 10 nights in March. Hotel very empty, only a few rooms occupied. Brilliant view of the Nile from our window, also overwhelming view of the Sonesta Hotel! This is a very friendly hotel, reception, cleaner and pool restaurant staff and pool man all go out of their way to help. Breakfast is the exception, some mornings this was a complete shambles, even though there were more staff than customers. We did not try dining in the hotel as there are so many excellent restaurants in the streets opposite. Lovely clean, heated pool right on the Nile. Lunch by the pool is very cheap and very good food. The Lotus is sandwiched between the Sonesta and Nile Palace and seems very small in comparison.
Our room was very narrow but adequate, small balcony. Comfy bed but VERY hard pillows which I found impossible to sleep on. No others forthcoming when we asked. All in all, if you want a budget hotel right on the Nile I think this is an excellent choice.

This is the second time I've stayed at this hotel and it will not be the last. We arrived on 26 February 2011 and found the hotel almost completely empty. The staff at the reception were charming and couldn't have been friendlier. This time we took a junior suite which was very large and comfortable with a large balcony overlooking the Nile. Actually, all the rooms have a view of the Nile, even though sometimes the view can be more of a glimpse than a real view. The junior suites, however, have a nice comfortable view. The only meals we had in the two nights we spent there were breakfasts, as there are a number of restaurants within a five minute walk. We found the breakfast to be more and adequate. No freshly percolated coffee, though, just Nescafé. Free wi-fi in the lobby, but not in the rooms. The only downside was that we didn't find a scorpion or alligator on our bed like the time before, just the word LOVE, which was good enough! The hotel is also ideally situated if you want to dash our for a meal - all you have to do is cross the street and take the street opposite perpendicular to the Nile. On the whole, this hotel is great value for money. And of course, people in Luxor were so happy to see foreigners, shouting out "Welcome back to Egypt".

The average traveller may not realise that this is an egyptian government hotel specifically built for the police service. The onerous ministry for the interior is opposite the hotel. Standards are high here for Egypt but there is a certain authoritarian attitude that prevails. No breakfast even one minute after 10am. The manager may switch the TV in the bar to Nile TV or they may have a staff meeting without consideration for the guests. All slightly odd.

I stayed here for my wedding night with my new Egyptian husband. We had to produce our marriage certificate for the hotel.

Saying that the hotel is good value and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. Only the bath is the worse for wear.

Just got back from the Apollo hotel in Luxor, we were on one of the first Easy Jet flights to be allowed back after the troubles in Cairo. Sadly Luxor was empty compared to how it should have been. The people were thanking us for coming to Luxor, it was very humbling. found a great place to eat called Ghazala Resturant just over the road and to the right of the hotel above the CIB bank (walk up the steps to the back of the building and take the lift to the 3rd floor) the food was great ( check out the 'Sandwich Viagra' and other delights on the menu) and they did the best cup of English tea in Luxor, free internet and to the left of the computer is a long tented area with scatter cushions and low sofa's.
The breakfast in the hotel was good but the steaks at the evening meal were tough, needless to say we only had one evening meal there. We went to a Indian Resutant called 'A Taste Of India' which was very good. The extensive menu also included things like cottage pie and chips, roast lamb and spag bol to name but a few.
Our room was 502 and we had a lovely view over the Nile to the mountains. the rooms were cleaned daily, the staff were helpful and friendly. A very nice hotel at a very reasonable price.
The Pillows on the beds were a little too hard, but thats the only gripe.
Luxor is truly a wonderful place and we felt completely safe at all times. Am hoping to return in September with My Mum and kids.
