“great little backpackers hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

We stayed here as a family with 2 teenagers
It was really friendly, the breakfast on the roof was great and we found the location just right. It was central enough but near a real local market where you didn't get hassled by horse and cart drivers. the nearby fish restaurant and the sugar can and juice shop on the corner were great too. We arranged a good tour of the west bank via the hotel which was good value too. We looked at a couple iof others but the rooms were smaller and they were generally more dingy

This hotel has some very friendliest staff, Ebrahem the owner goes out of his way to let you enjoy your stay. He's very knowledgeable and can arrange countless - reasonably priced - tours, or just tell you the best time of day to visit a site. The hotels cook is also very kind, and keen to make sure you've had a good filling breakfast. On arrival we were treated like guests, and even given a welcome tea, when we left Ebrahem even gifted us a bag of hibiscus flowers so we could keep making the tea for ourselves.

The hotel is located five minutes from the Nile and sites, and nearby lots of shops and restaurants (but far enough away for you to be in peace). It's the perfect distance from the Nile to escape the hustlers (Luxor is the worst I've encountered in twenty countries). Ebrahem can also arrange tours for you to save you having to get hustled.

Our room was very nice, plus cleaned each morning. It was spacious, had a window, and an en-suite bathroom (shower/toilet), there was a bath/jacuzzi in the roof bathroom.

The hotel has a fantastic roof top terrace, with both an open area and a covered shaded area. This is where breakfast is served and is a great place to escape from the heat during the day. Lots of comfortable chairs, plus a big TV with lots of channels (we enjoyed watching English films in the evening).

Lovely hot showers. Big and spacious too.

The breakfast is included in the nightly price and is the best I've had in any hotel in the middle-east or north Africa. A big helping of beans, plus lots of egg, and falafel?, bread, tea or coffee. Plus some tomato veg too.

The hotel has a great cook, who aside from making breakfast serves tea and coffee throughout the day as you desire. She's very friendly, and makes great food.

We used the hotels laundry service and found it to be very economic, amazed that my top came back white after three weeks cycling in Egypt - it was beyond dirty.

After some problems in Egypt with robbers, we were happy to feel very secure at Happy land, Ebrahem makes you feel like you're at home. We had our bikes locked in the front reception, which is manned 24 hours, and locked at night.

Happily re-visit Happy land.

is a good compromise between quality and price. the rooms are very clean and quiet. precisely what you need after a day in luxor. the manager is very helpful and really did his best to make our stay pleasant.
the hotel is a 10-minute walk from the city center and train station. good position.
if you need you can leave your luggage after the ceck out (train in the night).
in this period, the breakfast is not very rich ( a cup of tea, beans, bread).
definitely recommend the hotel for value for money.

Cheap and basic but the manager, his welcome and his excellent advice make it a pleasure to stay here. And you're not in 'tourist' Luxor, though the temple is still nearby.

Brilliant breakfast, friendly staff, clean, cheerful and everything worked. Shame there weren't many other travellers around though.

Stayed three nights in this generally good hostel. Management and staff are very friendly! Rooms are average at best, but the rooftop restaurant is nice. Breakfast is served from 7.30 and consisted of fuul, falafel, tomatoes, bread and, a fried egg and coffee (better than your average egyptian hostel breakfast).

The tour I took was a slight deception (the guide seemed genuinely uninterested in providing a good service and a visit to the "factory shop" was compulsary).
